Former Hammer signs 3 year deal in Portugal

|

The official website said  “The 22-year-old Spaniard has signed for three seasons with Famalicão after a season in which he represented Rayo Majadahonda and Lugo. A striker from Valencia, who scored more than 100 goals in the youth ranks, he emigrated to England at an early age to represent West Ham. Toni Martínez played for the London club’s main squad before being loaned to Valladolid, a club that helped return to La Liga at the end of the 2017/18 season.”

Martinez told the website “I am delighted to be invited to be part of an ambitious project to help FC Famalicão achieve many victories”
Martinez posted a statement two days ago on his private Instagram saying “Always a Hammer! Thanks for everything. One of the most important chapters of my professional career ended a few weeks ago. An essential moment in my growth as a footballer but also as a person. Being brave enough to come to England as a teenager was one of the best decisions I ever made. I want to thank West Ham for giving me their trust and allowing me to learn so much on and off of the pitch. Above all things, I want to say thank you for giving me the chance in these three years to get to know and work with just a fantatsic group of people. I will never forget you”

The Hammers signed Martinez for a reported £2.7min 2016 from Valencia with his signing a three-year contract. After a loan spell with Oxford in the season that followed, he then played three times in the FA Cup for the Hammers in 2017-18, and has subsequently been on loan in his homeland with Real Valladolid, Rayo Majadahonda and Lugo.
