Former Hammer wants Southend job

Former Hammer Luis Boa Morte is interested in becoming Southend United’s next manager according to the Southend Echo

The 42-year-old was assistant manager at Everton at the start of the season, working alongside Marco Silva at Goodison Park.

But he left the Toffees in December when Silva was also relieved of his duties. Boa Morte had previously also been assistant at Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa and coached at Portuguese sides Portimonense, Sintrense and Sporting CP where he worked with the under 19s.

Luis Boa Morte has left West Ham United by mutual consent in 2011 following relegation to the Championship.

Boa Morte made 109 appearances for the club, scoring twice.

The Portuguese midfielder still had a year left on his contract but has been released to pursue a new opportunity abroad with AEL in Greece.

Boa Morte signed for West Ham in January 2007 on a three and a half year contract for around £5 million.
