Several West Ham players have said their farewells in recent weeks as the season concluded, notably veteran ‘keeper Lucas Fabianski and half season signing Adama Traore. In addition, loanee Axel Disasi returned to parent club Chelsea and several academy youngsters were released as we covered yesterday.
Less newsworthy, but the end of an era away from the club, came news of the retirement of former West Ham favourite goal keeper Adrián, at the ripe old age of thirty nine years old.
Six years a Hammer: Adrian sent a message upon his retirement
Three weeks after playing his last game for Spanish side Real Betis, the former West Ham player took to social media to speak directly to Irons fans after his six years’ West Ham service.
Writing on twitter, Adrián posted:
” Hi Hammers, It’s me, Adrian..now that I have hung up my gloves, I owe you a huge thank you: Thank you for taking me to the most competitive league in the world. Thank you for welcoming me to your wonderful city: For giving me two Londoners – kids who remind me of you every day. Thank you for giving me the confidence on that day I took off my gloves for you, for that penalty. Thank you for pushing me so strong that I even scored a goal in Mark Noble’s testimonial.
And even I wore the colours of my country. Thank you for your support which gave me courage for everything. These are not the best times: But soon you will be back where you deserve to be. Thank you for making me a Hammer forever.
