EIGHT POINTS from losing positions is no longer the desperate form in which the Hammers started the season. West Ham may be stranded within the danger zone after Leeds’ surprising win against Chelsea, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have started to turn the supertanker away from the relegation rocks.
Last night’s hard won point, and the manner of the team performance, more importantly, gives cause for cautious optimism for Hammers fans that the second half of the season offers more to look forward to, as the backbone and team esprit de corps is back.
Not the best Manchester United side that has ever set foot on the theatre of dreams but no matter.
A point away from home from another losing position is a great result: There’ll be some tired bodies at Rush Green later today.
Most importantly, for West Ham now there is hope. Long gone are the Graham Potter – preferred ponderous, side-side-backwards- passing midfields of immobile, creaking thirty somethings: Potts, Magassa and Fernandes are all 22 or less. The trio performed with such aplomb that Nuno now has to decide how – or even ‘if’ – he will re-integrate the suspended Lucas Paquetá into a midfield that tackled, blocked, ran and intercepted all game long.
As former Hammer Martin ‘Mad dog’ Allen posted on twitter:
“Seeing these young players come in gives us all hope for a bright future. Good recruitment could see us slowly climb back up from this testing time”
And Espirito Santo deserves huge credit for trusting the youngsters. A debut for Kanté in the last few minutes added to the occasion, bearing in mind that twelve months ago the twenty year old was virtually unknown. Suddenly there is a buzz as young talent gets its opportunity instead of the same old worn out warhorses being wheeled out again.
Martin Allen is exactly right: The hope is back at West Ham United. Which is a good place to start.
Last night was the West Ham way 100 % comitment COYI
Answer is simple, keep the youngsters playing and don’t let Paqueta back in!!
Nuno has brought hope that we will avoid being relegated the young players coming through have been excellent and clearly proud to wear the shirt giving a hundred and ten percent let’s hope that Sullivan doesn’t go back on his word to back nuno in the transfer window as he has done to other managers if he does then I can see nuno walking away we need a change of ownership to feel confidence in the board
Don’t forget martin it’s the hope that can kill you😀
