Former Irons defender blown away by ‘incredible’ Hammer

Former Hammer Jose Fonte has revealed his admiration for Mikey Antonio after his incredible start to the season.

The Hammers star is in the form of his life and is continuing to hit the back of the net with real regularity.

Mikey has already scored six goals in eight games in all competitions and has also provided four assists.

The Hammers, of course, have only lost twice in the Premier League, to Manchester United and Brentford, and are also top of their Europa League group after beating both Dinamo Zagreb and Rapid Wien.

Fonte currently plays for Lille in Ligue 1 but he has been keeping a close eye on the Premier League and has been blown away by just how good the Jamaica international has been under David Moyes this term, and has spoken to how difficult he is for defenders to stop.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as transcribed by HITC, the central defender said: “Incredible. First of all, after the injuries that he had, to come back and still be at this level, it just shows what a specimen he is.

“He is a great athletic. Since he moved to the number 9 position, he has been been incredible.”
