Former Newcastle star Steve Howey believes Jesse Lingard made the right choice when snubbing the club for West Ham.
Magpies boss Steve Bruce was chasing the Hammers loanee from Manchester United but missed out as David Moyes capitalised on his relationship with the recalled England star.
But former United defender Howey doesn’t believe it would have helped his ex club too much had Lingard travelled north instead of south.
Lingard was reported to be the club’s top target during the final days of the the window but Bruce turned out to be a loser.
And there’s always the chance that the 28 year old midfielder will rub even more salt in Newcastle wounds when the Hammers arrive in the north east to play them in a couple of weeks time.
“You can’t carry the number of players that Newcastle are at the moment and I think that’s the real problem as you could maybe get away with one, maximum two in the Premier League.
“Jesse Lingard is not that good, he couldn’t carry a full team and I’m not being disrespectful to him because he is a very good player, but he’s not that good.
