Former top ref tells Madley he got it wrong TWICE

skysports-callum-wilson-bournemouth_4192388Former top ref Dermot Gallagher has confirmed that in his opinion official Robert Madley was guilty of two wrong decisions in the game against the Irons yesterday afternoon.

Gallagher has told Sky Sports that theĀ  decision to allow the Cherries equaliser was incorrect and that most refs would have sent off Simon Francis for the high challenge which poleaxed Cheik Kouyate.

Discussing the third goal Gallagher said: “It is a very tight offside call, but once Simon Long (referee’s assistant) calls that, the basics should just happen. He whistles and gives offside.

It became too complicated after that. The debate was if he is in an offside position and has he interfered and has the ball touched him. He has interfered. It became too protracted.

Simon was convinced it was offside and he is in the best position to judge offside. And the referee really should have just given offside and we would not be talking about that.

But unfortunately the conversation took place and there was too much information being given by each party, it seemed to go on too long. In the end, they came to the conclusion that Wilson had not touched the ball, which was incorrect as he did touch the ball and it also went in off his arm.

Of Francis’ challenge on Kouyate, which only received a yellow card from Madley, Gallagher declared: “I would not say it was malicious and I do not think he has in any way, shape or form gone to hurt him.

But he has a duty of care to his opponent and if you put your boot that high – and it is that high, it is not as though the player has ducked, his studs go in his face – I think it is a red card and most referees would agree with me.”

  1. He did.
Really 3 1) Francis boot to Face
    2) Obiang punched by King in face
    3) over ruled linesman for offside & handball

Would be nice to see action taken against Madley & Wilson who bragged about & others.

But knowing the FA nothing will happen no consistency

  2. He also distributed cards with no real standard or line of conduct. Ginger gets a yellow for challenging an opponent in his own box (without touching him because you see Ginge folding his legs to avoid colliding once the ball was kicked out), but then Zaba gets hammered without ball and not even a foul.

But the post sums it up. When I ref, even if it at youth level, IF the lino raises flag and I don’t know what happened, I go talk to him, and get it bagged in 15 seconds.
    – “What did you see?”
    – “Player offside and touched the ball with hand. No goal”
    – “Is a yellow necessary?”
    – “No, I don’t think so”
    – “Ok, I’ll go with that. Great job spotting it”.

    End of story.

    • Agree he handed us cards for every lil thing. Saw that match wouldn’t think we would have more cards.
And it shouldn’t be that hard like you say. VAR is quicker then that. Say we didn’t play wekk but should of walked away w 3pts especially bc Arnie he was great & Ginge

  3. What a disgrace. We were told how making these prima donnas professional would raise standards. What a joke. Just a chance for them to get on the PL gravy train. Look at them all selling their books & DVDs & getting their slots on the live coverage. Pathetic.

Would this have happened to City I wonder. Watched City/Magpies last night. Dreadful but Newcastle were pressing for an equaliser. How much extra time? When did you last see a game with one goal in it have less than 4m added on. Well you did last night. Boot on the other foot & City or Utd pressing & it would be 5m every time, plus a bit at the end of that just to make sure. Pathetic. Why don’t they just ref the games instead of trying to handle the result too?
