Fornals: “We are West Ham…we are a top team”

Fornals enjoyed his best game in claret and blue

Michail Antonio, and Said Benrahma took the most plaudits at Burnley  but  Pablo Fornals was also key to the  game.

The Spaniard worked ceaselessly and was responsible for winning the ball  which led to Mikey’s equaliser after the Burnley penalty.

His performance has rightly earned praise from his teammates and fans and he has become a fixture in the team epitomising what the manager expects from players – 100 per cent.

He will have a massive role to play over the next four games as we aim to turn dreams into reality.

Fornals told www.whufc.com that he is determined to help the Hammers secure the qualification for next season.

He explained that Champions League football was his huge aim and that he believed West Ham were more than good enough to do well in the competition.

He commented on a whole range of issues but on Europe he declared: “For the people who never lived these things, as a footballer it’s one of the best things you can do.

Obviously, if it’s the Champions League, I never played in the Champions League and it’s one of my goals, of course, but if not and the second option is the Europa League, I think it’s another great tournament to be in for us because we are West Ham, we are a top team and we need to play against the best teams.”

Looking at the remainder of the games we face he added: “From now until the end of the season, every team is going to play for something and obviously we are as well, but if we want to stay near the top, we have to win and that’s it.

“When we played Everton at Goodison Park, we played really well and we need to play like we did in that game, and the way we did at Burnley on Monday.

“If we are thinking about more than the Everton game, we’ll lose this game, so we have to keep this mentality and try to beat them and to be one step closer.”

He’s also delighted with the form of his big pal Mikey Antonio declaring: “Mikey was out for a few games, returned for us and scored twice, so I said to him ‘Come on, I need to score as well!’

But obviously we’re delighted to have him back and if he is scoring twice in every game then we will have a great chance of winning.

“I think nobody in this league can stop Mikey when he is fit, so we’re so happy to have him in our team.”

  1. Hi this is not a comment but a question, What is the case for places in Europe, if two UK
teams are in the finals of the two compertitions ie we have two of our places taken by teams that would have been there any way if you get my drift.

    • Hi Bob , if two teams Qualify for CL by winning their respective competitions then the automatic qualifying positions drop down to lower placed teams. Hugh did an article recently explaining that finishing as low as 7th could still Qualify for Europe if my memory serves me correctly lol ..

    • Now Arsenal are out, I think the top four now qualify if arsenal had reached the final, and won it ,they would have been given a place over the 4th place team,.So the dream still alive my friend

    • If Chelsea win the CL but finish outside the top 4 only the top 3 qualify for the CL, so there is a nightmare scenario here obviously

  2. considering what burnley did to wolves prior, that was the performance of a top side, full of confidence. Go a goal down, or 3. We never give up now. (maybe have spurs to thank for that).
