Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and free agent Mats Hummels are among the defenders being considered by West Ham if Kurt Zouma departs this summer, according to Sky Sports.
However, they are far from the only players linked with a move to the Hammers. As reported yesterday, the club has not given up on the prospect of signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Oumar Solet has also been mentioned by Sky’s transfer ITK Darmesh Sheth, along with Brazilian international and long-term target Fabricio Bruno. Adding Fikayo Tomori to the list provides a comprehensive overview of potential central defenders.
Nonetheless, Claret & Hugh were informed by a top West Ham source yesterday that Tim Steidten is focusing on only TWO candidates to replace Zouma should he depart for UAE Pro League side Shabab Al-Ahli.
It is difficult to imagine the Hammers pursuing 35-year-old Mats Hummels, especially given concerns about Kurt Zouma’s mobility. One can only assume the link to Hummels is either false speculation or a red herring to obscure the identity of Steidten’s genuine targets.
So, we were looking at another centre back anyway, does Zouma’s exit mean we are looking for 2?
