Free Agent Iheanacho Would be A Massive Error

West Ham United are reportedly ready to join the race for out-of-contract striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to media outlet Soccernet. The report claims the Hammers will face competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 27-year-old’s signature.

The report suggest that following the expiration of his Leicester City contract on June 30th, Iheanacho has emerged as a prime target for West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui.

Quite frankly, the suggestion is preposterous and surely can’t be true. We were linked with the player years ago before he left Manchester City, but his spell at Leicester has been patchy at best. During Iheanacho’s last three league campaigns he has registered less than 15 goals combined and one of those was in the Championship.

West Ham’s pursuit of a striker remains a priority for the club, with Danny Ings in particular failing to impress. Ings future remains uncertain, with interest from Southampton gathering pace. That being said, anyone who witnessed Julen Lopetegui cuddling up to him during yesterdays training sessions may conclude that all is not lost for Ings.

West Ham have been previously linked with established Premier League strikers like Callum Wilson, Tammy Abraham, and Youssef En-Nesyri . However, Iheanacho presents a more cost-effective solution but let’s hope it’s nothing more than idle gossip.

Also the fact that Iheanacho is available on a free transfer might hold significant financial appeal for West Ham, however, I’d rather Callum Marshall were given a chance.

Need some selective Freebies (without outlandish wage bill).
May be a couple of swaps.
As our expected signings will far exceed kitty of £100m.
£67m spent leaving only £33m for 6 players.
Not much of an average per player.

It is a no for me and a bit harsh on Ings as he was given no chance buy he who shall no longer be named……but nothing wrong in looking at free agent market some gems can be found as long as you do your homework

Just to make a point, you say “the suggestion is preposterous and surely can’t be true.” Yet these are the kind of rumours and speculation you propagate and spend your days giving oxygen to. Also Youssef En-Nesyri isn’t and has never been “an established premier league striker” as you imply. Maybe try proof reading before posting, as you are regularly quoting and posting inaccurate information!

Thanks for the comment, we read them all. I wouldn’t call this rumour and speculation: ‘The suggestion is preposterous and surely can’t be true’ can only be an opinion.
Now, by all means disagree, this is exactly why we keep the ‘comments’ column open despite some pretty strong stuff: Because it makes the C and H experience more readable and gives WH fans a place to air their own opinions and arguments in a healthy, lively debate. So by all means take us to task if you don’t agree.
BUT I’d agree that there’s a word missing: En-Nesyri is an established premier league – ‘calibre’ striker. Thanks for pointing that out. If you knew how many news sources we are stalking constantly at C and H, you’d forgive the odd ‘miss-type’. Tell me , what do YOU think about Iheanacho? I’d suggest he might be seen as a useful ‘punt’ as a squad player available on a free? MartinT
