West Ham United are actively exploring the free agent market to strengthen our defensive options. With the transfer window closed, Julen Lopetegui has until September 14th to register his final squad for the season.
West Ham’s defence has shown some vulnerabilities in recent matches. Whilst Aaron Wan Bissaka and Max Kilman have impressed, there appears to be a lack of depth and left back and central defence as demonstrated by Casey’s presence on the bench yesterday.
The Hammers are reportedly considering several free agent defenders, including Mats Hummels and Joel Matip. Both players have experience in top European leagues and could provide valuable depth and quality to West Ham’s defence.
Another potential target is Mario Hermoso, a versatile defender who can play both centre-back and left-back. Hermoso’s versatility would add flexibility to West Ham’s defensive options, especially given Aaron Cresswell’s recent injury.
At the last count, I think we had currently has 22 senior players in the squad. The club needs to register their final squad of 25 players by September 14th.
Out of the 22 players, 14 of those are non-homegrown while eight are homegrown.
Also Brazilian teenager Luis Guilherme, young defender Kaelan Casey and other Academy players who are 21 or under do not take up a squad place.
Kasey is an exceptional youngster, give him a chance..
Why go for some journeyman who’s holding out for a ridiculous contract..
Time for Casey to get his chances
It has already been said, but it bears repeating, try playing Todibo from the start and keep Mavrapanos as back up. Emerson and Cresswell both need replacing.
