The media and, I suspect, the fans, are already coming to love Niclas Fullkrug. Whatever the opposite of ‘vanilla’ is, Fullkrug is it: Outspoken, opinionated, calls a spade a spade- however it is defined, ‘West Ham’s German’ has the capacity to be both informative and controversial without fear of recriminations. He talks like he plays, battering his way through interviews and defences alike.

So when he was interviewed and asked about his future, in light of the ever present claims that he ‘hadn’t settled’ at West Ham and wanted out -Fullkrug was characteristically forthright.

From kicker.de (relayed by sportwitness.co.uk) comes the news that  should delight his growing army of claret and blue fans: Fullkrug isn’t going anywhere:

“I didn’t join a club at 32 to use it as a springboard,” he said. “Of course, as a player, you take a certain risk before a transfer if the club isn’t yet where you’d like to be, and that’s playing internationally – because that’s where I, and West Ham, come from. But I still believe that it’s possible given the conditions here. I’m devoting myself entirely to this task…

I’ve never had any intention of leaving West Ham—and that’s not even on my mind right now. Because I’m really enjoying this job at the moment. I find a challenge like this appealing: moving to a club that isn’t yet where you want to be.”

Straight from the horse’s mouth. If Fullkrug succeeds in his ambition of firing West Ham back to international competition in Europe – then he’ll be well on the way to club legend status. He’s already becoming a cult figure so – fifteen goals next season ?

That will do nicely from ‘West Ham’s German”

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

As much as I like Bowen, he’s not a captain. This guy is. Watching him live, he makes such a difference on the pitch and is a handful. I’ve no doubt his character is also needed in the dressing room too. We’d be absolutely stupid to let him go.

Great and all those articles about how Fullkrug wanted out, didn’t like it at West Ham etc. all a complete load of tosh and nonsense.

We need another young striker and a keeper and 2 quality midfielders with lots of energy. If Sullivan doesn’t provide potter with funds west ham will be relegated next season

  • Dutch Courage says:

Very good news if true and as long as Potter wants to keep him. It may be a bit part role but will at least give some continuity at a time of turmoil. I’ll be glad if he stays, speaks his mind and gives us 30 mins from the bench along with occasional starts when required.

Good news We need hes determining and will to win

  • TommyD says:

Unfortunately, I highly doubt he’ll ever stay fit enough to be much more than a bit part player and a spokesman for the people!!

Hope this lays to rest the wantaway, homesick labels. Good news for me, Martin. Thanks for this.

Just need everyone else singing the same song. COYI

Honest as a days long both in how he speaks and in his performances. I like the bug guy and am glad he’ll be around next season.

What with the injuries he looked like a second choice after Sullivan refused to pay for Duran, but I think only AWB, Bowen and him end the season with their heads held high.

Meanwhile were 16 points adrift of mid table and in a normal season our points total is not sufficient to guarantee safety. We’ve moved a hell of a wagebill out of the door and we need to bring in more than one or two decent players now.

  • John Harrison says:

That’s good news. Thanks Martin. He’s an effective player and captain material. I saw the guy leading on the pitch, pointing and talking with other players. And they were listening…

  • Dave says:

Send him back to Germany not good enough for premier league

    • V says:

Pmsl. Clearly never played football, he’s like me and I’m 44 and still play. If I don’t play week in week out I run a high risk of injury, he even said that when he came! We get players that are on a high and we then bed them in, leave them on the bench and wonder why they play shit, confidence is down and then get injuries. Play him regularly and I’m not saying full 90 every week but like me if he plays every week he’ll be a force to reckon with. Next season if potter gets at least 3 players he wants and summerville back fit then we can judge Potter, but to inherit shite then blame the manager after a very short time is comical. If He manages players right but plays them every week then we’ll see a different side, we need the character of fullkrug. Judge not now but later ⚒️
