Having been unavailable for most of this season, many have been speculating as to Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham future. The Hammers forward has suffered calf and hamstring injury blows that have kept him out of both the Hammers’ starting eleven and the Germany International side. He must have been concerned about ever pulling on the national shirt again. At 32 the way back into the Premier League or the International side is an uphill struggle.
So when news reaches us of Fullkrug’s trip during the international break to re-unite with his former German team-mates via getfootballnewsgermany.com, it speaks volumes.:
“As reported by Sky Germany, Füllkrug flew to Dortmund to have a team meal at the Acqua Italian restaurant in Dortmund, a place he known well from his time at Borussia Dortmund. The 32-year-old was also present for the team photo in the restaurant and will also be present at the DFB’s final training session in Brackel on Wednesday.”
Which is very welcome news for the player, foe the German national side and most importantly – for the purposes of our readers – is the best news for West Ham United: Niclas Fullkrug is on the way back.
As the report continues:” Niclas Füllkrug can still be an option for Germany”. Having only ever been a ‘super-sub’ for the national side, his rehabilitation work this spring means he’s just about ready to rock in a West Ham shirt again and is clearly seeking to pick up the pieces of his International career. Amen to that. A fit Fullkrug gives West Ham selection choices for the remainder of the season and options – whether to sell or retain – the player in the summer.
Which is a far better prognosis than the sight of a stricken Fullkrug being helped off the pitch in January.
Nice one, Martin. Niclas is on his way back. Rejoice and look forward to a great couple of months on the playing fields of England. COYI
Hope he’s soon back and firing. Very similar top level scoring record to Bowen. I back him to score a few before the season ends.
I don’t see him showing the same enthusiasm for his club side and I am not sure why this report is so upbeat about a player who has hardly excelled since joining and who seems to be eager to leave. On the other hand, the only time Luis Guilherme gets a mention is in stories about him being sold, despite having a profile that seems to be a better fit for West Ham. Perhaps that is because he was a Steidten find, and some people cannot handle a Steidten success story?
Squad members should be prohibited from playing for their national team when they have yet to meet health standards required by their club.
He will come back with a knock before exiting with all the boodle.
