Gale slams Irons for buying “rubbish”

TonyGale_3167231Raging Tony Gale has slammed the Hammers recruitment strategy last summer as a “a load of rubbish” and has torn into the club..

The Hammers brought in the likes of Gokhan Tore, Alvaro Arbeloa, Havard Nordtveit, Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri over the summer.

Zaza departed without a goal , Calleri has managed just one, Gokhan Tore has barely done anything because he’s been injured, Nordtveit can’t get in the team and Arbeloa has spent the majority of his time on the treatment table.

Gale snapped: “They got a lot of rubbish at the start of the summer. The recruitment was poor from West Ham and as good as it was the season before it’s been bad in the last recruitment and that’s shown in the results.

“You can only do with what you’ve got as players.”

  1. Dead right – I think you could add Feghouli to that list too – what was the ‘brains trust’ thinking?

  2. Absolutely agree! But more to the point are the same Brian’s trust going to be operating in the summer transfer window? If so God help us😥

  3. That should read brains. No offence Brian😃

  4. Well on the plus side the majority where free or loans so no real damage done.
I have seen many poor summer windows and many very good summer windows over the years.
Some players hit the ground running others never adapt if from other countries.
The summer before last was a good one,the last one poor.
I would only be concerned if it became a constant problem.Tony Henry came from Sunderland but when originally at Everton with Moyes he was very highly regarded no matter what the gloom merchants like to say.

  5. So come on let’s have a bit of honesty here. This site can do honesty, we don’t claim to know better than the owners or the manager do we?

First thing to remember is that the same owners, manager and Recruitment Director had a brilliant transfer window the previous time. Payet Antonio Lanzini to name just 3 so they’re no mugs. Agreed?

So, last summer. The Tore transfer dragged out didn’t it, who was excited about us bringing him in? I was frothing at the mouth. Nordtvielt, ok so I knew nothing about him but he was MUnchum Gladbach’s (yeah I know!) player of the year and they got into the Champs league right? I was happy with that one.

I admit I wanted Bacca or Bats or Lacerattes but they wouldn’t come would they? When I heard about £25M juventus striker Zaza I’m like yeah he will do! Fletcher was rated higher than Rashford at ManU so he seemed worth a punt. Fegouli from Spain seemed a good buy from You Tube! Callari was being linked with Barcelona and he looked a great finisher.

Ok most didn’t work out and I suppose the critical experts will say the manager and recruitment team should’ve known better but I challenge you to say hand on heart that you thought that lot would fail back in August. I thought we bought well.

I still Ayew and Fegouli will prove decent buys.

    • You started it so if we are being brutally honest – who didn’t think that Ayew wasn’t a panic buy when the 20 goal a Season Striker didn’t materialise?

£20 million for him!! Swansea must have been laughing all the way to the Bank!

I still don’t know what he’s supposed to be or what his position is – and neither does Bilic I reckon!

      • The Michael we have all come to know and love.Miserable as a wet weekend in Clacton lol

        • Yeah but fair play MM he was over priced but he is I think will come good. But that wasn’t my point, back in August we mostly all thought we had bought well. Let’s hope they get it right next window.

Calls to sack the medical staff now because Sakhos broken down again. You couldn’t make it. Sakho is a crock and it’s our medical staffs fault. It’s a disgrace lmao. Seriously will our club ever get anything right again?

          • I have read it all before from the amatuer witch doctors who say they dont trust our medical staff and they are incompetent.
You cant make it up young John.

      • Gotta agree you re right so far Michael

  6. Everybody blaming the new players, it wasn’t the new signings that were losing us matches all the way to Christmas it was Adrian, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Noble, Antonio, Collins, Payet it was the established players that were making most of the mistakes and not putting a shift in. I stand by what I have said all along I think the coaching staff have a lot to answer for, they haven’t set us up to get results and every match has been a new jolly up for the players that has seen us capitulate under even the most average amount of pressure. Obviously we didn’t get a single one of our primary targets in the summer and some mistakes were made but all clubs get things wrong in the transfer market and most seasons recently we have had good windows, I personally think the players we bought for the future a decent percentage of those will come good, I think Norveidt, Fernandes, Fletcher, Martinez, Quina, Holland in the next 2 or 3 years will come good, Feghouli might be criticised by some but every time I have watched him he looks like he is challenging for every ball and trying to create if the rest of his team mates did that we wouldn’t be in the bottom half of the table.
