The news that Noussair Mazraoui has rejected a move to West Ham in favour of joining Manchester United is just the latest blow West Ham have faced in the transfer market recently.
On the surface, there might appear to be little for Hammers fans to worry about. After all, weāve just spent Ā£40 million on defender Max Kilman, who looks to be an exceptional player. West Ham have also broken with tradition by traveling to Brazil to sign one of the countryās brightest prospects, ahead of some serious competition.
However, early momentum seems to be grinding to a halt as West Ham appear to be struggling to get any transfer deals over the line. Whilst the Hammers are not quite a laughing stock, there are accusations of incomitance being levelled at the Hammers in the media.
The club seems to have backed out of the deal for Mazraoui over a Ā£2.5 million payment to his agent, which has allowed Manchester United to secure the right-back. As if that werenāt bad enough, it seems we have also been unable to meet the wage demands of Manchester Unitedās current full-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Add to this the inability to finalise transfers for Jean-Clair Todibo, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Jhon Duran, and it seems a pattern is emerging. I’m quite certain that the recent trend of failed transfer negotiations will be incredibly demotivating for Julen Lopetegui, Tim Steidten, and David Sullivan. Regardless of who is to blame, it canāt be easy watching your rivals succeed in areas where you are failing.
Get a wriggle-on
But there is a straightforward way to rectify this situation and inject some optimism back into the proceedings: sign somebody. Not just any player, of courseā that would be incredibly foolish. West Ham have been linked with numerous players over the summer, including Jota Silva, Matias Soule, Trevor Chalobah, Ivan Toney, and others.
The Hammers do not want to find themselves scrambling for signings on transfer deadline day after having made such an excellent early start to the window. Therefore, we need to act quickly and make a signing in the immediate future. As unpalatable as it may seem, we might need to pay a bit over the odds to secure the players we want.
I really don’t understand the lack of realism on this site. we were told that there is 90 million budget of which 65 million has already been spent ! SIMPLY this leaves 25 million for all the other players needed .you have said that you don’t know the view of the coach . so why don’t you ask him for an interview? you have said elsewhere that STEIDTEN is playing mind games with MAN.U. ( of course divulged to us before any contract signing!) the outcome is we have probably lost now any opportunity to sign a decent right back. . is it more likely that someone is playing US .
Surely the player rejecting us and us backing out because of the agent’s terms are two totally different things?
We’re in the same position as most. A lot of business will likely go through late on when either clubs get desperate and give in to demands, or players/agents/selling clubs have to raise funds sharpish. It’s by no means ideal, but it’s the way of the game now.
No need to get stressed out by gossip and speculation.
Providing they sign r/bk, l/bk, c/bk and left winger in addition to Duran before eleventh hour everybody will calm down.
If they don’t the sh!t will hit the fan.
Over to you Tim.
West Ham refusing to pay excessive agent fees and players wages. GOOD! About time someone took a stand. Itās because of these leaches we are being charged silly money for our tickets. Canāt have it all ways.
What is up with this site and the comments, all clubs are finding it difficult as we are.
Calm down for gods sake, and sort out the bloody adverts on this site
Not too many contributors on here have any patience. The players we will have signed by 17th August (or by the closing date of this transfer window) will need to hit the ground running, or woe betide them. (Or Tim and Julen who are allegedly behind the deals)
Sometimes I feel that the ‘failings’ of some of the new players we sign are a knock on effect of the frustrations of fans in the London Stadium, on social media or broadcasting platforms……..I just wish some would ‘wind their necks in’ and take a step back.
Here we go again last day limbo, just get the deals done and stop messing the fan about.we know what we need to strengthen the side and still you messing with the fans heads.
On Mazraoui…
āIt all got too expensive and the new rules regarding wages/agents fees ā including amortisation of transfer fee ā not exceeding 85% of turnover are very tough”
Note how complex transfer deals are now, most fans won’t even understand that statement.
Man Utd have huge revenue is why they’re able to sign him, their 85% is a much larger figure than our 85%
But all is not woe because we have the largest revenue outside of the big six, call it a big seven and we’re in it.
Sullivan the decaying centre of this club . Please go
Julen Lopetegui & Tim Steidten, will walk away & who can blame them, we do all the negotiations in public and fail miserably every time. We end up signing whatās left at 11pm on the final transfer window day & wonder why we struggle.
āaccusations of incomitanceā
Guess the same might be said of the writing on this site
Maybe, maybe not. But at least we can spell.
I think we all believed the pearl finder would provide us with a superb striker who has been playing in the Hungarian third division, or a centre back who has struggled to find form or is out of favour in one of the bigger European leagues
Maybe our pearls are Guilherme and Irving and now the icing on the cake will be a striker, right back and left sided midfielder which we have more than a whole month to get
We should make a statement and go out and get Ivan Toney not waste money on a might be good, this window started well but is starting to stink out the library of the London stadium šļø
Forgot all the rumours, its all about the agents!
We know the score with osullivan!
We have what we have and let’s just be positive and COYI.
3 weeks to season starts, done nothing AGAIN on buying a striker, another transfer window on the cheap, ticket prices up, team sliding down the league, I really not looking forward to this one.
Nothing will change until West Ham has new ownership
MB then why don’t you go away till they do. Obviously not a true fan
It’s nothing to be surprised about. WHU finished last season mid table. No Europe. It’s hard to attract top players.
every transfer window there’s uproar because this player or that player hasn’t signed. Most of what’s reported is rumour and exaggeration.
It’s no August yet. Nothing much happens until later in the window every year.
Man U will always attract players we can’t. Get over it.
Come on Andy , thatās the point we should get deals done early to allow players to bed in . We shouldnāt leave it until the last minute as no guarantee the player will sign
Starting to believe Steidten may not be in complete charge of transfers after all.
The things is….. not one of us knows anything. So it’s best not to play a guessing game or make wild assumptions.
