Whilst the Hammers were getting thrashed last night and the knives were being sharpened – understandably so in my opinion – for the board, the chairman, the vice chairman and the manager – and indeed several of the players – who all made their sorry contributions to this spectacle, I’m not sure that all of the ‘morning after’ anger is fairly directed.
Several of the Hammers’ regular blog and news sites carried articles criticising Lucas Paquetá for his ‘ill judged’ instagram post amidst a team crisis. The post in question is here:

Loosely translated, the Brazilian’s post stated “It’s all about pointing to the one who deserves to be glorified and exalted, regardless of the circumstances, God.”
Now as usual, Paqueta’s performance was a mixture of maverick and maddening: A brilliant goal and theatrics, rolling around and losing possession. For the poor challenges and giving the ball away, by all means be critical. But after Lucas Paquetá’s two year ordeal at the hands of the FA and public opinion, knowing that he was likely to face a lifetime bam should the kangaroo court find him guilty, I think he deserves enormous credit and respect for the way he conducted himself.
Never missed training, always turned out from the club, didn’t disappear off to Brazil (or Manchester City) the moment his outcome was known: Compare Newcastle’s plight with Isak and I’d suggest Paquetá is a person with a different moral compass. So allow him his moment of triumph, his personal demons are now slayed and I’ll celebrate his wonderful goal and show a degree of tolerance to a somewhat ‘self absorbed’ post admidst a team crisis – after what he’s gone through.
Give the guy a break. There are plenty of other targets more worthwhile of supporter anger and anguish this morning.
My brother texted and told me not to watch (it was recorded). So I haven’t.
I wonder if the midfield might benefit from Geritol? Worked wonders for Grandpa…
Nobody can compensate for such poor defending lazy defending wan bissaka not on his toes and lets his man get inside him as for the goalie whoever recommended him should be sacked immediately need I go on 60 years supporting this club and if I could get a rebate on my season ticket id snatch their hand off
Those of a nervous disposition should look away now, because it needs to be said whether we like it or not!
I know it’s very early days, only two games in for Christ’s sake. But what I saw in those games, brought back painful memories of past failed campaigns, and believe me I have seen plenty. Panic buys, sacked managers, Avram Grant etc, and the inevitable relegation that we all know is coming. I say all, but not the individuals currently occupying the boardroom it would seem, whose mistakes over the last few years I have neither the time or willpower to list here, because there have been so many.
If the worst should come to pass, and there’s nothing at this moment to suggest that it won’t, there could be an upside to our dire situation.
Going down to the Championship, which is about our level at the moment, could well be a blessing in disguise. Prompting our glorious leaders who would no longer be bathing in the glory of being in possession of a Premiership club, and might finally decide to sell up to someone more competent, assuming they can find anyone. Which will to lead to the inevitable fire sale of grossly overpaid players to balance the books, and fielding a fast young talented team to lead us back to glory. Look, I’m clutching at straws here man, so give me a break will you. C’mon you, you know the rest.
Paqueta and Bowen were the only shining lights! I thought fulkrug did well linking up with Bowen before potter replaced him?
Well put Martin.
Nothing will change while Sullivan and Brady are in charge, bsout.co.uk sign the petition and let’s start the campaign to get these clowns out of this club. While they’re in charge the only way is down. A change of manager is papering over the cracks. The problem is in the Board Room and ownership. We can’t keep sleep walk into relegation as a fan base through apathy and acceptance. We need some of that Upton Park fight to say enough is enough.
Plenty of other fish to fry, that’s one of the last things for us to get het up about.
I cannot see where points are coming from the way things are, and there’s no chance of us going to Wolves and winning in the league cup. I think it’s only a matter of time until that’s untenable and Potter will have to go.
Then what ? Another bargain basement managerial appointment that few if any of us would make. In the meantime it looks like we suffer folks and we do not deserve that. Can we play you every week they sang between the oles.
Quite agree . Anyone else notice Potter bemoaning the fact that Chelsea were a ” top team ” , if you talk in those terms you are in trouble before you start, for an Englishman he really lacks inspiration, have to feel very worried for the team I have supported for sixty years . PS don’t suppose you will publish this anyway 🙏🏻
You’d be surprised. Lost your bet.
It’s a part of the times we’re living in. Whatever someone does, however innocuous, there’s always some idiot who’ll find a reason to criticize.
The blame is on SULLIVAN – no one else!!!! @@@@@@@@@@@@
Barry, quick reply – your comment has been edited. for everyone else too – Please refrain from using inflammatory language, threats, et cetera. I will just delete .But Barry sounds nice . So he gets another chance.
Absolutely Martin, but we need him to rise out of the dire sht that is what most of the rest of the team are producing and lead the way.
Totally agree Martin our frustration should be aimed in one direction
