West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has refused to be drawn into speculation regarding his long-term future at the club and insisted all attention must remain firmly fixed on Sunday’s must-win clash against Leeds United.
During his press conference with the assembled media, Nuno faced questions on everything from Jarrod Bowen’s omission from the England national football team squad to the relegation battle and even whether he would be keeping one eye on Everton’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the one subject he flatly refused to entertain was whether he would still be West Ham manager next season.
“There is no other thing in our minds than this Sunday.
“All the club is focused on Sunday.
“Then there will be a moment to think about it.”
Nuno Was Never Going To Answer
And honestly, I wouldn’t have expected him to say anything different.
I’m also fairly certain whichever journalist asked the question already knew they were unlikely to get much of an answer.
Claret & Hugh have been informed on multiple occasions by sources close to the club that if West Ham suffer relegation, Nuno will not remain as Hammers boss.
And it is also understood there is a feeling from his agent, Jorge Mendes, that Nuno is simply too good to be managing in the Championship despite reports suggesting he could stay.
Newcastle Mistakes Cannot Be Repeated
For now though, his focus is correctly on keeping West Ham in the Premier League.
And frankly, that is exactly where I want his attention to be.
Because the tactical mistakes and team selection from last weekend’s 3-1 defeat against Newcastle United simply cannot be repeated.
West Ham have to beat Leeds.
And then hope former manager David Moyes can do us a huge favour against Tottenham.
After the Newcastle debacle I will be happy to see him go relegated or not.
Nuno too good for management in the championship.
REALLY !!
