West Ham United posted the tenth highest average attendance in the world last season, drawing an impressive 62,407. This figure was the second highest in the Premier League, trailing only  Manchester United who averaged 73,815 at Old Trafford.

Topping the global list was River Plate with a remarkable 84,782 spectators turning out on average to see the Argentinian Primeria Division side.

What makes West Ham’s attendance figures particularly noteworthy is that they managed to attract such large crowds despite a poor home record – winning just 5 league games at the London Stadium and failing to register a single home victory against any of the Premier League’s top ten sides.

Remarkable really given the rubbish served up last season that Hammers fans continued to show up in such numbers.

A number of clubs featuring above West Ham in attendance rankings enjoyed successful campaigns, which makes the Hammers position even more impressive. More surprising, however are yet some of the clubs that are ranked below them.

Champions League winners, Paris Saint -Germain came in 32nd with 47,676, while Barcelona were 34th with 45,953.

With a modest transfer budget and a difficult season behind them, West Ham must deliver better results in 2025-26 to sustain these strong attendance numbers. A half empty stadium in the Championship is a scenario the club will be desperate to avoid.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

The article doesn’t take into account ground capacity. For example, PSG can only take 45000, Barca are temporarily ground-sharing. I’m a life-long Hammer, but this sort of article is pointless. We have a big stadium, and our support is amazing, but other clubs can only fill what they’ve got. If you want to make comparisons, look at the clubs who don’t actually fill their grounds.

  • Barry says:

Newham release the actual number of people through the turnstile as part of their SAB brief and using those figures would paint a very different light on the situation.

  • Timbo says:

Great attendance and we also get a great deal on the stadium. So if we are skint as the directors tell us, will they also admit that they have woefully mismanaged the club in recent years?

  • Anglianhammer says:

But, the actual attendance is considerably less than the official attendance. How many fixtures are watched by a completely full stadium? In common with most other PL clubs there is a degree of dishonesty about attendances.

  • Kenny Irons says:

But put to shame by clubs like Bournemouth, Brentford and Palace to name but a few, who have a combined home average gate less than ours.
Most of their bench could walk into our first eleven ! 👎
    Sullivan out !!

  • Beyond caring now says:

Yet this club still pleads poverty and they’ve got no money to spend untill players are sold, utter bs…….Sullivan is embarrassing and has killed this club.
We have no money to spend yet your attendance stats should prove otherwise, given the fact they freed up loads of wages by releasing plenty of high earning players and all the TV revenue money that comes in plus the Premier league prize money for finishing 14th yet we still have no money to spend ?????
Sullivan has treated us fans with contempt for years and it is him that is holding this club back, honestly we are an absolute joke….sick of all of it.

  • Wiggy says:

Barca are playing away from Camp Nou at the moment whilst building work is underway. So not a fair comparison.
Anyway, the attendance numbers are fiddled cos it’s number of tickets sold not bums on seats

  • R.Plowman says:

Official? If anyone attended any matches this season they would see that the London Stadium never ever sold out. There were thousands of empty seats each game.

  • Phil says:

Just think how loud the poverty bleating would be if the attendance dropped

    • Wayne says:

If it weren’t full of mainly white seats, you wouldn’t notice all the empty seats week in, week out.

I know the seats are sold but the amount of people that don’t turn up each week is quite staggering really

  • Mick bering says:

Pity the team dosnt turn up week in week out like we do
