French news outlet L’Equipe are reporting on ‘X ‘ this afternoon that West Ham are back in the striker market place with a bang, the latest name to resurface being that of Lens frontman Elye Wahi.  We had heard the name of this exciting front man earlier in the window but presumably all Irons’ interest subsided when the focus went to Jhon Duran.

The full post from L’Equipe is hardly extensive: ‘Now it’s West Ham and Leicester’s turn to position themselves on Elye Wahi’ – but it rings true that there is a forensic (if not yet frantic) search amongst European strikers taking place as West Ham seek to move on from the stalemated negotiations with Aston Villa .

Possibly this is merely a ruse to  lure them back to the table in a more reasonable state of mind by identifying other equally suitable targets? Time will tell: Tim Steidten was rumoured to be in the hunt for Wahi last summer before he left Montpelier but then the whole Lucas Paqueta scandal broke and the funds never materialised to allow the purchase of the striker to develop and he was sold to Lens.

Wahi is an exciting centre forward – only 21 and approaching the best years of his career and just one year into a contract at Lens, so he won’t come cheap. 41 goals in 112 games in French League 1 is a scoring rate which would make him a serious, tried and tested addition..

35-40 million euros is quoted across various sites so whether The Hammers actually get to table a realistic bid – the emphasis being on realistic – we will have to wait and see. He’d certainly be a magnificent addition to the squad at London Stadium but – would he want to come?

Forever named ‘Else What’ by my Mac Book autocorrect, the French International would surely be looking for European Football – deja vu going on here. Lots of hurdles on this one.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Probably paper talk Martin but hope it’s true, was really hoping to get him last year an out and out goal scorer that presses and tackles.

  • Brendan says:

It has all the markings of dissent at the top table on decisions.

Tim will will get his shoes and walk in frustration.

Agree with all the above comments.
Losing the Irish defender for a snip to a club in financial issues and possibly Jota for cheaper to Forest!
Unless we pull some magical gems from Tims or Sullys pie holes, we will struggle even in the championship with our squad moving forward.

Another name, another we tried, which means we offered half what the selling club wanted & we wonder why we missed out.we we’re told we had this massive rebuilding planned, we have brought 2 look at Villa didn’t say a word & they have around 10 already in that shows some ambition

41 goals in 112 games, 35 / 40 million euros , how much is Duran and how many goals . Bite there hands off no contest between the 2.

Why the f*** are notts forest close to signing Jota Silva. He was one of our main targets before the transfer window opened, according to ITKs, and we haven’t made a single move for him. Total disgrace from Tim, Loppy and Sullivan. Class right footed left winger. Better than most of the so called targets being reported about over and over again. Makes my pi55 boil

      Completely agree.
These signings, Jota Silva (£8.5m) and Jake O’Brien (£16.5m) wanted by whu for positions in need of reinforcement are hardy mega bucks.
Exactly what are whu looking for these 2 were so close to the cheap as chips category.
O’Brien has gone (signed) but there is still time to contest Silvia’s signing so get you’re finger out.
Jumping from one player to another is so haphazard with no game plan.
Elya Wahl is another, not for the first time to be associated with whu, fits the bill but at £35m is probably out of depth.
Would be better a better choice than Duran, from the comments, yes.

Its all b* these sites make it up as they go, like a bunch of old women gossiping, they have no clue, lets just trust in Tim, and cast aside all this noise..its funny that other teams like arsenal and even the spuds dont get any of this b* from so called fans websites, makes us look like mugs 100 times a day.

  • Phil McDonald says:

20 quid and a packet of Monster Munch if Sullivan gets his way.
