West Ham United supporters yearning for a change in ownership face a double dose of disappointment, with a potential major setback on the horizon and a lack of serious interest from potential buyers.
Vice-chair Karren Brady remains an unpopular figure at the London Stadium, criticised for broken promises and a ticketing policy seen as harming loyal fans.
Despite efforts to attract new investors, the club’s search appears fruitless. Vanessa Gold’s stake sale hasn’t attracted significant interest, and the put-and-call clause hinting at a full takeover hasn’t yielded results.
Minority investor Daniel Kretinsky, previously seen as a potential saviour, is preoccupied with recent acquisitions, pushing a West Ham takeover further down his list of priorities.
Also Brady’s recent attempt to secure financial backing in the Middle East seems to have been unsuccessful.
The newly elected Labour government’s commitment to an independent football regulator throws a spanner in the works for potential takeover plans. The regulator’s aim to impose stricter financial regulations could significantly impact the club’s valuation, deterring potential investors.
Brady and Sullivan vehemently oppose the independent regulator, fearing it will cripple the Premier League’s appeal to foreign investors and negatively affect the club’s value.
The proposed regulator, stemming from a fan-led review, aims to safeguard fan interests and enforce stricter financial regulations, something many fans support but poses a threat to the current ownership’s financial goals.
With the new government’s stance on regulation creating a roadblock for potential investors, Kretinsky’s focus elsewhere, and Brady’s recent efforts yielding no results, West Ham fans’ hopes of a swift ownership change are fading.
The club’s ownership situation remains shrouded in uncertainty. With the current ownership unpopular and potential buyers discouraged by the proposed regulations, West Ham fans face an extended period of frustration.
middle east no thanks something really stinks about the Saudi public owning any football club in England especially West Ham United
Kretinsky has never been the answer to our issues.
His money is tied up in too many cash pits and pits that are going to require a lot more money than us
I hope FFP or whatever gets stricter. Cap all players wages and transfer fees. Put a set limit on what ALL clubs can spend in a season. Let’s stop clubs being able to buy trophies.
Agree on transfer and salary caps.
Yes players should be rewarded (well) for their hard work. No different from any other employee (LOL).
But if we seriously think we wouldn’t see top talent because of a reasonable cap on salaries and transfers, is akin to saying people don’t want to be paid well for doing something they love.
We are in a great position with our new manager new signings and more on the horizon yet a minority still complain. Support the team don’t get involved in the politics of it all. ⚒️
Labour are already started to play the “blame game” so they may be tied up with doing that for the next 5 years.
It’s not hard to see they’ve got a point Graham . Literally nothing in the country is working as well as it should be including football . Yet another fact free argument from Simon as well . I’m sure it was reported on here a few days ago . that the club is expecting incoming investment before the end of the year .
Stricter financial regulations is good news for us and any clubs fans in the Premiership. Sullivan won’t be able to cash out and run without West Ham being in safe hands.
It didn’t go to well with the Icelandic owners.
Will prevent dramas like Everton fans can testify to!
Or in a more POSITIVE frame of mind, we seem to be moving away from the old style of thinking and hopefully onto a more European outlook in the way the transfers and club is being run (only time will tell) so hopefully as things start to get better and our on and off the pitch antics start to produce better and better results we’ll hear and see less from the owners and start concentrating more and more on the team as a whole and we’ll all be as happy as a pig in 💩
