West Ham joint Chairman David Gold has responded to the rumour that the Qatar Sovereign Wealth fund could buy West Ham United by suggesting he would always do what is in the best interest of the club.
Asked on Twitter whether the 80 year old would sell up to the filthy rich middle east state to allow the club to move on like Chelsea and Manchester City, Gold replied.
“We would always do what we think is in the best interest of our great football club. dg”
Challenged he once said the same to fans at Birmingham, Gold responded:
“Birmingham was different, we were cockneys not brummies and 87% of the fans voted for a change of owners so we sold. dg”
When one fan suggested it was all about the money and the chairman’s pockets Gold snapped back “If it was only about ‘our pockets’ we wouldn’t have bought the club in the first place. dg”
Yesterday West Ham Joint Chairman David Sullivan told ClaretandHugh “We are 100% in discussions with NOBODY and have no desire to sell.”
To be fair his father was serviced in Cardiff when he was born, he moved to Hornchurch when he was 10. He also lived in Yemen when his father was serviced there but that wouldn’t make him an Arab.
Sullivan’s NOT a cockney, he’s a taff!
