Gold gives his two word match verdict

West-Ham-United-co-owner-David-GoldDavid Gold had only two words to sum up today’s win over Sunderland: “Utter relief.”

The co chairman admitted to enjoying the first 25 minutes as the Irons poured forward and played their best football of the season.

But as the performance faded and Sunderland began to create chances, he like the rest of us, was left chewing his fingernails in frustration and anxiety that a deserved win would get away.

He said: “I enjoyed the last 16 seconds and feel an overwhelming sense of relief. Sometmes you don’t always get what you deserve from this game but in the end we did today.

“They basically came to defend and go away with a clean sheet but I do think that would have been an injustice. We deserved the win and came out with three great points and another clean sheet ourselves.

“The only words to sum up my feelings really are ‘utter relief.'”
