David Gold has claimed that Diafra Sakho is fit “in every respect” and really do the business for the Hammers.

Slaven Bilic has already spoken of how highly he regards the front man and of his delight in having him back for the Spurs match at the weekend.

And the co chairman can’t wait to see Sak back in action having followed his return from injury closely and tonight told ClaretadHugh exclusively: “He is over all his problems and can’t wait to get into action. He has worked very very hard  and is keen to show he still has a lot to offer.

“He was unucky when he sustained the injury whilst away on international duty whilst under treatment from Senegal medical staff.

“But our people have worked tremendously hard on him and I think I can say he now 100 per cent fit and ready to show what he’s all about again. He is a tremendous striker, mobile, athletic and never ready to give up on lost causes.

“He gets in behind defenders and has the same never say die approach as Michail Antonio. It’s great that he’s back because at his best he’s one of the best strikers in the League.”

There has of course been widespread speculation and some anxiety over Sak’s attitude during the summer and his refusal to join pre-season tours.

But Gold said: “He is in very good shape. He has battled back from all of that to take his chance and he’s very much a West Ham player who now has the chance to show us that he is ready to earn a new contract. He’s fit in every respect.”
