Gold: “Our fans are extraordinary”

DGOLDDavid Gold reckons the Irons fans were a big motivating force behind today’s great result aAdd Mediat Stoke City declaring the Britannia Stadium “one of the fiercest and most partisan grounds in the country.”

He told ClaretandHugh: “They boo very decision that goes against them and are absolutely relentless in the support of their team but our fans were extraordinary.

“They are an amazing and don’t get anything like the amount of credit they deserve.

“They were brilliant in their support and for me were a big  reason we  got back to 2-2. I thank every one of them.

“Following your football team is an extraordinarily expensive business these days. In my day it cost the equivalent to 10p and even then I bunked into the Chicken Run for free.

“I say a lot about our fans because they are a unique bunch  and deserve all the praise in the world.”

  1. Very true, and well recognised again D.G. .We have always had a great away support and its getting better. Altogether now………. C.O.Y.I.

  2. I thought we battled well on Saturday but to be honest we were lucky to get a point. Against a better side we would have been 2 to 3 nil down by half time, Individual defensive errors, no cohesion through the middle of the park, and as we all knew he would Valencia looked a it bewildered up front on his own for the first 45. I don’t know why Sam can’t understand that playing 1 up front hands every initiative to the opponents, As I said Valencia struggled to make any real impact in the first half as he was severely isolated and with Downing back out wide we couldn’t control the game through the middle. Hopefully it’s the last of this 4-5-1 as it clearly doesn’t work, Amalfitano had his worst game in the shirt and it looked like the words “Watch your runner” and “Track Back” had been left out of the French dictionary, and it was no surprise when he was replaced by Cole at half time, for me though Cole should have started and we should have stayed with the formation that has served us so well this season. Still, it was a point that there is no way in hell we would have got last year as this current side has not only some quality but some resilience in it as well, it’s just a shame that we didn’t start with 2 up front from the beginning and we could have quite easily I believe walked away with 3 points. All in all it’s still a great time to be a Hammer. COYI
