Gold so excited when he saw Irons team sheet

Gold arms up in airWest Ham co chairman David Gold admitted tonight that there was a real air of excitement when club insiders saw the West Ham team sheet last night.

Gold had told ClaretandHugh in an exclusive article several days ago that he was looking for an “attack attack” approach at Hull and certainly wasn’t disappointed.

And this evening he declared: “I don’t think there was a fan out there who would not have picked the same starting X1 had they been given the chance.

“Certainly I’m sure that 90 per cent of them would have done and to see the team playing a diamond formation was exciting – a real change of style. It was great and a wonderful game. Nobody had any complaints.

“Of course we would have loved to win the game but it was great to see the team playing the way it did and still going for a win in the dying minutes.”

And Gold believes that Enner Valencia’s wonder goal was one of the greatest he’s seen during his time in the game as a young player onwards.

He said: “It was utterly astonishing – to hit a ball at 70 mph from that sort of position was extraordinary. It enters my top ten all time best goals.

“I said when we bought him he was going to be a serious handful for Premier League defences and I think everyone else can see it.

“We have to keep our feet on the ground but after the game at Hull we can look forward to the weekend with some genuine confidence.”
