David Gold bounces back quickly from disappointments – he’s learned it’s entirely necessary after 23 years as a club owner.
And although 2-0 at Watford – after such a run of success is a let down in a big way – he sees it as a reality check and remains acutely aware of what he has been seeing behind the closed doors of the dressing room and beyond.
And he says that one thing is entirely new to him – a team spirit he hasn’t seen here or at Birmingham City where he was keeper of the shop with David Sullivan.
In an exclusive interview with ClaretandHugh he said: “Of course it’s a big disappointment to lose at Vicarage Road but we will move on to the match against Everton entirely confident of getting a result. Wherever we go and whoever we are playing I believe we can win which is a very new feeling.”
There’s a new mood, an atmosphere he admits he’s never known and he declares: “The spirit is so great among the players. It’s really unusual and exciting.
“In the canteen the players are so together. To see Andy Carroll coming in and slapping Mark Noble on the back while he’s eating demonstrates the point. If you knew these two you’d see how unusual that is.
“I can feel it better than describe it.I’ve honestly never known anything like it and it’s really difficult to put into words..
You see them all staying on after training to play football golf and the laughter and fun is infectious. There as a time when it was a seriously difficult chore going over to the training ground because managers kept things secret.
“With Slaven Bilic – and this new mood has clearly come from the top – it’s a real pleasure because he answers all the questions we ask honestly and openly.
“The players are feeling it to and it’s that in part which explains why we have such a good thing going here and it’s why I believe we will bounce back so quickly. This group really feel it when they let themselves and each other down.”
The two Daves should stop banging on about how good they think we are . It breeds overconfidence and poor displays . If Sullivan hadn’t have started on about winning the Premiership we might have seen a better performance against Watford ….. No Game is easy and never should be considered so . Blaming players is easy , we can do that all day and every day when there is a poor performance . But the Board can also perform badly by creating an atmosphere of complacency .
Not only that but we don’t want to put the players under any undue pressure, I’m sure Mr Gold wouldn’t change up from 1st to 4th in his Roller
Mr Gold does not mention the unforgivable error made by Carroll, that gave Watford a simple first goal, it’s okay being friendly at training but only what happens on the pitch counts. Wonder if Mr Gold remember the same thing happened last season when Carroll returned, we had to change out style to fit him in and the wheels came off and we lost our form.
This season we have been playing fast playing football I just can’t see Carroll being able to adapt to this style, at best he is more of a impact player from the bench if needed, not starting whatever wage we pay him.
It is time that we returned to being a team which is about every player, the non-stop virtually every day Carroll media machine had to stop, he need to keep a low profile off the pitch for a while, and the club stop talking him up constantly.
