GOLD: ‘That one was for the fans’

Relieved Hammers co-owner David Gold was in joyful mood after the team completed a ‘double’ via the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City courtesy of goals from Carlton Cole and Mark Noble.

He praised the players after the hammerings at Nottingham and Forest where they had taken massive criticism for their lack lustre performances.

But he believes the travelling fans have to take most of the praise  for their unstinting loyalty to a team that has been going through some seriously lean times.

Speaking exclusively to ClaretandHugh he said: “They saw us take two awful hammerings at Forest and Manchester and never stopped singing  – the players know they owed them and today they got a reward.

“The fans have shown this week what makes West Ham fans so special. I know how tough it has been for them and  many have made their feeling known on Twitter.  That’s not been the best!

“But they have the right because they never stop supporting and we are so glad and relieved the team got those three points for them and the club today.

“We must keep things in perspective. No disrespect to Cardiff City but we haven’t been a Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City today. However, it is a very big win and we can build from here.”
