Gold: The Pellegrini/Noble ‘masterstroke’

David Gold – like everyone else around the club-  is starting to dream what were once impossible dreams!

Victory over Manchester United and a third clean sheet can do that and the co chairman admits: “It all starts at the manager who as things stand must be the best we have appointed in our ownership history.

“He has put together the best West Ham squad in many years and, that we could go and win a game like yesterday’s, without Manu Lanzini and Michail Antonio shows how far we have come.”

And he added: “Everybody at West Ham now believes we can compete with the very best – we are expectant after seeing him add players to ensure we have two for every position.

“We have spent a lot of money and are breaking our transfer record season on season and seeing the results. It’s early days but things are starting to look very good.”

Gold believes the transformation in Mark Noble, whom he claims was “all over the man of the match,” is totally down to the manager.

He said: “The worry with Mark in the past was always that when he got forward he struggled to get back but by dropping Declan in behind him he’s free to do what he does best – make things happen in the top half of the pitch.

He was totally involved in the first goal and was brilliant throughout. Although it seems simple it’s actually a bit of a masterstroke.

Mark is loving his football and doing what he’s really good at. That makes a huge difference and he was all over man of the match for me.”

Gold also believes that in Seb Haller we have a striker who is unrelenting in his work rate and line leading ability but who may have suffered a little via Manu Lanzini’s absence yesterday.

He said: “It’s a tough job on your own up there because when Manu is in the team he starts wide and comes in closer to Sebastien which helps him a lot and doesn’t leave him so isolated.

But we were good all over the pitch and the confidence is growing game on game – we are happy, the fans are happy and we are playing a brand of football which excites.

“It’s a time to enjoy and dream. These are happy days and we all have reasons to be very hopeful.”
