David Gold spoke for the board and everybody inside the club when he told ClaretandHugh: “That’s a very good opening draw in the Europa Cup.
The Hammers face an opening cl ash against Lusitanos of Andorra and Gold said: “It could have been a lot worse than that – everybody is quite happy.
“When the draw was made we were all pretty content. A trip to Wales was the only better option but by the time you have got to the airport, the trip to Andorra is about the same and there’s no changing time zones
“It’s the start of a big adventure and although we came in through the back door via the Fair Play League, we have a good squad and with the planned new signings we can do well.
“I want to win this competition and I believe the fans are going to enjoy a great ride in our last season at Upton Park.”
We havnt got a ‘good squad’ though have we.We have a squad atm, thats about all you can all it.Going to need serious reinforcements to even get out of the group stages, let alone win it.Which sorry but it aint going to happen.
You are right “stuck on”.The Squad is poor by any standard English or European. The owners seem to think the new quality will come cheaply and the result is we will end up getting Cole back.Teams like Man City,Chelski etc have inflated good player prices but unfortunately that is the reality of premier league football. My fear is the opening of the new season and again too much is left for too few.I wouldn’t want to go to Europe with a second rate team either.I believe we are in the pickle we are in because of the legacy of Allardyce. His constant interference in the transfer market has left us light on quality.
Andorra & possibly a Maltese team is a great draw travel wise.No problems at all.Would have been a sh*t having to go to Borats homeland.
