David Gold will be giving full backing to a safe standing proposal which will be discussed at the Premier League meeting next Wednesday.

The Hammers co chairman – speaking from Portugal to ClaretandHugh a few minutes ago – made it clear the time had come for the experiment to be given the go ahead by the PL and government.

He said: “I have been regularly meeting with manufacturers of the seating and will be fully supporting the proposal next week.

“This will produce no revenue for clubs but this has to be done for the fans I believe it is essential that we go ahead with this as a League.”

Such ‘seating’ has been introduced at Celtic and is gaining support of the PL clubs with Arsenal, Spurs, West Brom and Swansea among those believed to be in favour.

Gold said: “It’s tme for the experiment to get underway and I will be talking very much in support of it at the meeting next week.

“We have to move on. It is already working at Celtic and there’s no reason why it can’t work everywhere else.”
