Gomez has yet to prove his worth to Valencia

Former West Ham striker target is yet to prove his worth to his new club.

Maxi Gomez pre-season with Valencia was less than convincing scoring just one goal from six friendlies with local supporters questioning the wisdom of paying so much for him.

West Ham submitted a late bid of 50 million euros to Celta Vigo only for the club to reject the offer insisting it must all be paid upfront while the player himself later insisted he only wanted to move to Valencia.

West Ham instead turned their attention to Sebastien Haller paying Frankfurt a transfer fee of £40.5m with a further £4.5m of add-ons.

La Liga’s season kicked off on the 17th August when Valencia faced Real Sociedad. Gomez remained an unused substitute on the bench during a 1-1 draw.

Despite it only being one game into the  La Liga season local Valencia fans are venting their anger asking whether they made a mistake in signing the Uruguayan striker.
