Good enough for Moore so why not Messi?

MessiGreat football journalism becomes rarer and rarer so it’s really pleasing to draw attention to a piece which captures the spirit and atmosphere of Upton Park for an entirely left field match.

In describing last night’s game between Argentina and Croatia writer Jonathon Liew declares: “Lionel Messi at Upton Park; sounds strange but well, why not?

“If it was good enough for Bobby Moore, jummy Greaves and Geoff Hurst, then why not Messi?” Spot on

He adds: “It was a strange sort of evening to be at one of England’s great old football hrounds, in light drizzle and near silence. To watch the world’s second-best player conduct his cistomary master class – and score the winning goal, naturally – while being serenaded by a chorus of “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles.”

It’s a great piece and you can read the rest of it at Telegraph sport. Highly recommended!
