Failing upwards, it is termed. Being considered for a managerial role after presiding over West Ham’s dreadful nine months under his management is no mean feat for Graham Potter. As West Ham’s least successful manager – ever – Potter has not only processed his sacking but has apparently already put himself out there for two jobs within a couple of weeks.
Rather than hiding away and licking his wounds and counting his compensation as when fired by Chelsea, Potter the Pragmatist apparently had conversations with Rangers – who evidently decided that his brand of ‘slow burn’ football wasn’t what they needed just now.
But if reports are to be believed, Potter is now batting his eyelids and making ‘come and get me’ moves for the newly vacant National Manager role with Sweden after the dismissal of Jon Dahl Tohmasson, as reported by footballinsider247.com. Potter remember had success in Sweden with club side FK Ostersunds between 2011 and 2018: Maybe he feels returning to Scandinavia would see an upturn in his own fortunes which have distinctly faded and died.
As per the report:
“Graham Potter sends come-get-me plea to club after West Ham sack:
“I just heard the news (about Dahl Tomasson). It’s sad, of course. For Swedish football and JDT,” he told Fotbol Skanalen.
“But yes. I’m actually in Sweden right now, in my house in Sweden. I’m between jobs and just left the Premier League. I’m open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The job as the national team captain of the Swedish national team is fantastic.”
And why not. It might even reduce West Ham’s compo payouts which could be very good news for David Sullivan.
So good luck to Graham Potter, then: Sweden is plenty far enough away.
Good luck to him. A nice bloke which is a rare thing in football.
Can a turnip become a swede? Good luck with that, Graham!
at least we don’t have to endure him abd his staff anymore All we need now is for Lopetgui and his staff to find a job then the compo saved might give us enough for at least 1 player
JLo has been manager of Qatar since May…
+ Dejan Kulusevski
If Graham Potter accepts the job as Sweden’s national team coach, he will have the following players at his disposal:
Victor Nilsson Lindelöf,
Yasin Ayari,
Lucas Bergvall,
Alexander Isak,
Viktor Gyökeres,
Anthony Elanga,
Roony Bardghji.
Unfortunately, he will also inherit a set of equally shaky defenders as he had at West Ham.
