Graham Potter receives ultimatum for Crystal Palace fixture | West Ham News

In the current toxic environment surrounding West Ham United, there’s very little ‘leaking out’ from official sources who are battered and bruised after the criticism that has been handed out by the media over the results on the pitch and the supporter protests off it. Something of a siege mentality exists, in stark comparison with the summer transfer window when ‘club spokesmen’ kept up a pretty near non-top commentary on bids, targets and offers.

However there are sources still very close to the club who get to hear what is going in inside ‘fortress’ London stadium. Reported today along those very lines, hammers.news quote their ‘transfer source’ close to the club (which probably means a well-connected agent who works with the club) and make it clear that Graham Potter’s West Ham future is hanging by a thread.

Unlike the Julen Lopetegui death by a thousand cuts series of excruciating  ‘must-win’ games that dragged on for months, Potter has an ultimatum for the Crystal Palace game:

“We know he has Saturday’s game,”  HammersNews’ source stated “I am told Sullivan is very concerned by the fans’ reaction at the moment. It is more toxic than he ever had under David Moyes and Lopetegui. Defeat and that’s it for Potter. But I am told it won’t be a rollercoaster like both the previous managers, saving themselves with the odd win.”

Which is a clear threat for Potter – lose and you’re out.

Welcome by just about every one of the four million West Ham fans worldwide who can see Potter’s lack of a plan, awful team selection and dreadful results, ranking worst in the league of Hammers Managers: and that takes some doing.

You’d suspect, then , this this is the reason for the ‘radio silence’ out of the club this week: Behind the scenes, the work is already being done to line up a replacement as is David Sullivan’s wont: All the ducks will be in row before the Palace game, enabling the West Ham board to fire the manager and at the same time, to throw Potter under the protester’s bus and hopefully – in their minds anyway – divert angry supporter attention away from their ‘anti BS’ agenda.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

We should be beating Palace at home, so it’s just putting the decision off, until the next game.
    SACK POTTER NOW
We need all the points we can get so I don’t want us to lose. If Potter clings on however we could lose the next 3 before a decision is made.
Shameful pestering by the board and Brady needs to follow Potter out the door. At that point DS has nowhere to hide and noone to scapegoat. IF we then see some success he may get a bit of backing. However I’m sure his interference will have us relegated regardless. So ultimately with or without Potter and Brady his time will be done soon as he clearly won’t change and most of not all fans have had enough.

Don’t be so ridiculous. One more game! Defeat against palace means curtains! So what happens if he wins? We get to keep him? Until when? The next game? He has clearly shown he’s not up to the job. I’m sure Sully will dump him just as soon as he’s got a replacement lined up.

As said it should be win and performance or its just the start of another series of win, lose , get thrashed “must win” again.

But who has any confidence when Sullivan is choosing the next guy? Obviously from a small pool of jobless managers yet again.

Said many times , he will never learn
    Get out

It’s proven that Potter is clueless. He should be gone now.

Let’s see would be a surprise if we win, Moyes for all his faults always seemed to win the must win games, so will be interesting to see if Potter can galvanise the team to perform like they did at Forest.

I think it’s the same as with the Tottenham game, start with the right eleven and we have a fair chance but start with the wrong eleven and the wheels can quickly fall off.

Drop Hermandsen, there’s no point in having a keeper who can play with the ball at his feet if you concede too many from corners is what is happening. Fabianski reportedly had a good game last night.

Drop Kilman and play Igor Julio who we hear is training well, Kilman is not doing it.

Drop JWP for Magassa, I’m mystified what JWP is doing to warrant his slot, Magassa looks far higher energy.

Bring in Fulkrug or Wilson for Soucek, we need the ball not to come straight back at us and either will add hold up play.

Will Potter do any of that ? It seems doubtful with the exception of Soucek is an enforced change.

Who cares about the anti DS brigade? Just give me a team to support and be proud of.

Come On You Irons. Pull your fingers out.

The 🤡can’t be allowed to divert all the attention to Potter. The 🤡runs the club, he took over responsibility for transfers and he is responsible for the club’s sorry state. The 🤡must go for things to improve, but I can honestly see him still in charge in 10 years time 😭. The fans might want him out, but let’s be realistic the only person who has any say on that is the 🤡himself.

where are you getting that fiqure of 4 million from?

  • AM says:

Even IF we win it has to be a convincing win not just a lucky goal But if this rumour is true I hope we loose so we can get back to playing football instead of netball

  • AdievW says:

Except that, if this report is true, it actually is the rollercoaster again, is it not. Win this, and the timer starts again. What happens after the next ghastly defeat? ‘Win the next winnable one or it’s the sack’ – and so on? This looks to me like the same old pusillanimity pretending to be decisiveness. It’s clearly a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’, so be adult, DS, and just get it over with.
