West Ham United will be unveiling Kyle Walker Peters any day now. Medical passed. all should be done and dusted perhaps by the time you read this on Sunday morning he’ll be announced as a West Ham United player. From yesterday’s showing the full backs are going to be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Wan Bissaka, of course, is Wan Bissaka. pacy, aggressive, brilliant tackling. And now on first showing, El Hadji Malick ( a.k.a.’Magic’) Diouff on the left has the same pace and has a strength in possession. And brilliant crossing ability too, by the look of things.

A trio of strong, capable, fast and attack minded full-backs at the club bodes well for West Ham and actually, for supporters.

Early signs from Callum Marshall are good. How much have West Ham missed a pacy forward with deft touches and a clinical finish.

Tougher challenges for Marshall will lie ahead and the jury is still out as to whether Graham Potter will send him out on loan to the Championship for a season: The summer series in the USA will test Marshall against Premier League Quality defences and you’d feel his impact will be better assessed after competing with Manchester United, Bournemouth and Everton’s defenders.

More goals and Marshall will be pressing to stay with the senior side. One goal, in one game, does not announce a new era at West Ham but it absolutely emphasises the lack of fast, quality strikers in recent seasons when a 20 year old can come in and make an impact. especially one who is just returned from a season on loan in the third tier of English football.

And on another ‘positive’ footnote, just a personal opinion but ‘that’ kit looked pretty awesome yesterday on its first outing for the cameras. Absolutely ‘West Ham.’

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Positives- got off to a win and Marshall, Diouf looked good
Negatives- still too much possession given away but temper that with first competitive pre-season game, the trip to the USA will be much more telling.

It’s great that back line looking solid but we still need a goalkeeper, 2 midfielders who have pace and 1-2 strikers if we are to be at the right end of the table next season.

Not sure I’d agree that the back line looked ‘solid’ in the second half!

  • Timbo says:

We’re not about to sign 2 centre forwards so there’s no way we should be sending Marshall out on loan. Could be a good option off the bench this season but as you say tougher challenges ahead.

Diouf is a great signing. Potter has alot to prove in many ways but I think having him in charge for at least a few transfer windows will benefit us in the long term.

What’s happened to the French player we signed last season and loaned

  • GaryH says:

Cheap sponsors, cheap shirts, cheap stadium, cheap training facilities, cheap manager, no DOF and cheap chairman. SULLIVAN OUT

  • Geoff says:

I take your comment on the kit, was a tongue in cheek dig 😉

    • Grouty says:

No view on Freddie Potts? Best player on the park second half.
Prem midfield will be much more challenging but he has done enough for a chance. Could save us £30m.

  • John Ayris says:

Not keen on the shirt, where’s the blue ? And without sponsors logo that’s as good as it is going to look. The more a kit looks like something Geoff Hurst might have worn the better.
