In discovering the Hammers alleged targets over the last 24 hours one thing appears to have become clear – there are no strikers under consideration!
That seems to suggest one of two things – neither of Gianluca Scamacca or Mikey Antonio are leaving or that certain young man named Divin Mubama is now a very serious Hammers prospect.
Three goals in successive pre-season games along with fine performances whenever introduced last season at PL or Euro level has shown him to be a a player who is more than capable of troubling defences at any level.
Ok it’s early days but both the manager and his assistant Billy McKinlay have made it clear that this is a lad with a big future in front of him.
And I for one fully expect him to be challenging the senior strikers for starts before the season is out and coupled with the others in the academy who show enormous promise this could be a hugely exciting season if the manager allows it!
I think scammaca could be off. Ings will stay. If Antonio goes Mubama will get game time. The kid Borges from City I think will be a future striker if Moyes converts him from winger to striker. We could also play with Bowen or cornet as strikers but If scamacca goes I think we need to bring in a new striker.
He is in the last 12 months of his contract, yes? That needs attention pronto. For me, Mikey and/or Ings needs moving on. Hopefully with a decent upgrade.
I can see Scamacca leaving soon, and possibly Ings. Antonio will only be allowed to go for silly money, I suspect. That leaves a place open for a promising player with more experience than Mubama, who I expect to hit the ground running once given his chance.
To be honest if we can get a fee for Mikey I personally think it’s time to say “thanks for everything”
Stats been slowly dropping season after season, the podcast and general public outbursts think it’s time for him to earn a nice Saudi retirement package
Done a great job, but he should be bench at best, and if he wants to play and get well paid – good luck to him
