It was good to see Josh Cullen make a winning return to action in South London asĀ Charlton scored a convincing 3-1 win over Stoke City t the weekend.
Josh had looked very likely to become part of the Hammers squad until his deadline day move and there remains a recall clause in his loan agreement which could see him come back to the LS should he be required in January.
But in the meantime it’s good that our academy graduate has found a place in former Hammer Lee Bowyer’s Championship outfit who after two games are in second spot on joint points with Sheffield Wednesday but one goal worse off.
The official site reveals that Josh completed 42 of his 49 pass attempts as the newly-promoted south Londoners who look to be having a real go this season
Charlton return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host Forest Green in the EFL Cup first round which will give another opportunity to the 23 year old of impressing if selected.
It’s difficult to see how he would have got games at West Ham given the apparent strength of our midfield but maybe it’s a little early to write him off as a Hammer altogether.
If I were the club and Josh were willing, I’d extend his contract because a good season in the Championship can see your value sky rocket. If Cullen were to be Charlton’s player of the season and get in to the Championship team of the year, you’ve suddenly got an 10m asset on your hands either to sell or finally use to help West Ham.
