Luis Guilherme has scored his first West Ham goal as the Hammers’ under-21s came from two goals down to draw with Benfica B in the Premier League International Cup.

The £20m Brazilian is still waiting for serious senior action with the first team and was wisely used in an under-21 game that saw the Hammers produce an impressive second-half comeback.

Guilherme scored with an excellent finish to make it 2-1, following an audacious chipped through ball from Dan Rigge. The Brazilian had drifted into a central position and collected the lofted pass before shooting high into the net with a powerful finish.

Brad Dolaghan played a role in Guilherme’s goal and scored the equaliser himself to make it 2-2. Special mention must go to goalkeeper Mason Terry, who produced an amazing man-of-the-match display that kept the Hammers in the game and in a position to fight back.

The run-out may not have been what was sold in the brochure upon joining West Ham, but the minutes and goal will do the player the world of good and should keep his fitness levels up.

He played as the number ten role as a midfielder. He has an impressive long range pass out to the left wing. He did it a number of times. The goal was probably the best bit of quality in the whole game. The player who impressed me the most was the goalkeeper Mason Terry with some stunning saves. Getting back to Gilljerme though he played well into the second half so not sure how long we would see him for if he does come on as a sub against Liverpool.

Ollie Scarles was impressive also by the way. I think the lads too good to still be playing in the U21 team. He should be out on loan to a championship team if he’s not going to get any opportunities in the first team.

Morning mate, the difference in Scarles physically in less than a year is stark. He’s gone from skinny kid to one of the biggest lads in the team.

I think the positional switch you alluded to can be really good for him.

Yes Gonzo, let’s hope that J-Lo, unlike Moyes, shows some commitment to really giving our Academy players a chance of progression. Instead of 5 or 10 minutes at the end of games won, or in meaningless European end of group stage matches.

Same as Orford by the way. He should be out playing men’s football, as should Gillherme in my opinion.
