Gutted? Of course…BUT Irons have truly arrived!

|

2655Gutted? Sick? angry? Still not over it?… yeah all of that and ready for the mickey-taking and wind-ups from every Man U fan around

And make no mistake there will be plenty of them dancing on the streets in the hotbed of their support this morning… Hastings, Bexhill, the Romney Marshes, Torquay, Skegness and Clacton etc!

But hang on a minute. For me this season was always about league position with a decent Cup run thrown in and so long as this disappointing result doesn’t lead to a few more defeats this has been as brilliant a season as any of us could have wished for or remember.

A new manager – who let’s be honest many had doubts about – new players, who have surpassed all expectations, and with just one point between us and MUFC in the table we are still on for the last laugh over them.

There’s six games to go and this is a squad with fantastic spirit and resilience. So I do not see defeat at Leicester so long as keep the back door shut – defensively we were worrying last night.

Slav will sort it, of that I’m sure, but the Michail Antonio right back thing has now surely run it’s course. We know his strengths and it’s time to restore a natural defender to that spot.

It’s also time too to bring Sak back and I’ll tell you this I genuinely believe that had he played last night the outcome would have been very different.

As we have said so many times previously, his relentless running is a huge worry for defenders and more exploitable gaps would have appeared with him around.

Andy C is great at what he does but it is a little one dimensional to simply believe that balls into the box will be enough and actually there weren’t enough of them last night anyway.

It was a bad night – massively annoying to lose, especially against that mob, but like the rest of you I’m a proud Hammer because of the wonderful new approach to the way we play and the fabulous victories over the best we’ve enjoyed. Make no mistake West Ham United has arrived in the big time

Those days when ‘fortune’s always hiding’ area almost at their end!

They WILL NOT come back to our house and do that again. This is a promise from me and every other man, woman and child who wears a pair of crossed hammers on their heart.

It was gutting but unlike the golden circle of tactical magicians and
,wannabee managers from the site that would have been read daily by Bobby Moore I won’t be asking for Slav to be sacked or sell the whole squad like a few stated on their match day thread.

No hugh, we HAVE NOT arrived!!!!!

First of all we need a world class goalkeeper who can save shots written “goal” all over them, and consistently snatches victories from the jaws of defeat just like de Gea does for Manure. IMHO such a keeper will be the foundation of any sustained future success and is more valuable than the 20 goals a season striker we currently seek .

Then we need a regular, reliable and competant rightback, as well as a quality right sided centre back to play alongside Ogbonna. Finally we desperately need a classy defensive midfielder who can read the game and actually break up the opposition play, who doesnt lunge into desperate tackles, and doesnt fall behind the play or stand in our own way when the game is pacy, someone who can control and dominate the opposition like N’golo Kante.

l havent got anything near Bilic’s acumen but l promise you we will win a trophy next season if the above areas are attended to. l know because l actually predicted we will finish 6th this season given the team we had assembled, and so far lm right….. hahaha.

I would agree that we have arrived 80% ? Next year will determine wheat her that is a true statement ! But make no mistake , we need to recruit a few players to achieve this , as mentioned defensive m/ f a c/h and a top class striker , keepers are OK IMO but 4 or 5 top players need to come in and shift the deadwood out ! It was obvious last night that if lanziniand payet ddon’t produce then we struggle , both need to be taking on players and not continualy tipy taping , if one takes charge then we have a chance so I think another creative m/f is needed to change things when needed !
But as you Hugh , I’m well satisfied with the season so far ,

In 1 year we have grown in to a top side with a real talented honest fresh manager,
We will finish in the top 6
We now have players that can change games but unfortunately it did not work out last night,
Yes we have some areas to improve and Slav knew that when he arrived,
They have given youth a chance and now we need to find out how good our youth is,
No keeper would have stopped their first goal and Randolf made 4 great saves,
If we can keep our best players and add 3-4 more good ones we will be a top 4 team,
I for one will still be glued to the TV or Radio for the rest of this season and I am very excited about next year,
Great read Hugh and no panic or damp patches
