West Ham were left trailing at half time following a fine goal from Abel Hernandez six minutes from the interval.

And they were lucky not to go in two down when the striker  hit the bar four minutes later and although Jelavic netted, the effort was ruled offside.

The Irons had bossed much of the first period and played some great approach football at times but were stunned by the Uruguayan’s goal from a pinpoint cross from Elmohamady.

The hosts had started fast and had the Irons on the back foot but we  slowly worked our way into things with Downing providing some good runs – one of which ended kho blasting high and wide.with Diafra Sakho

And the striker could have given the Hammers a lead in the 34th minute when he diverted a Valencia headed  at the far post towards goal but the ball was desperately pushed away for a corner.
