Half-Time Report: Tottenham vs West Ham

Spurs 1-1 West Ham

Tottenham began the half as the brighter of the two teams, with West Ham seemingly content to allow the home team possession of the ball. Alphonse Areola was called into action during the first 10 minutes of the game, making a clearance to deny Solanke a chance to shoot, followed by a nifty piece of footwork more suited to a tricky winger than a goalkeeper.

However, it was the Hammers who had the first meaningful attempt at goal in the first half when Jarrod Bowen’s dribble and cross were met by a fierce Mohammed Kudus shot, which was well saved.

Son Heung-min curled a long-range shot just wide after 14 minutes as Spurs predictably dominated possession. Rodriguez was kept extremely busy during the first half of the game, making several crucial tackles and justifying Julen Lopetegui’s decision to select him from the start.

After 18 minutes, West Ham took the lead with Bowen repeating the earlier move by crossing to Kudus, who scored to make it 1-0. There was an element of fortune with Bowen’s deflected cross, but the Hammers punished poor defensive play from the hosts.

The rest of the half played out as most would have expected, with Tottenham enjoying the lion’s share of possession and producing a number of corners until Dejan Kulusevski capitalised on Lucas Paqueta’s error, scoring with an excellent long-range strike to make it 1-1.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

FFS what is going on? We give away 3 goals in 7 minutes and Kudus just completely lost his head getting a straight red card and now misses next 3 games! Same defensive weaknesses and lack of leadership as we showed against Chelsea and Areola and Pacqeta complete shadows of the players they should be. Huge pressure back on the manager now and surely questions must be asked about his future in the boardroom.

Note to Loppy. Paquetta is a liability and a luxury.
    Areola needs to practice passing.
And, please, please, get us playing a little bit faster.

Second half is all too easy so far for Spurs.

  • Wally1982 says:

We need to talk about Areola.
His passing is atoricous, hasn’t completed a pass to a team mate all season let alone today. Non ex̌intent effort to save son shot and why doesnt he use his hand for the own goal instead of his feet???

  • Kip says:

Didn’t think it would take to long to fold up after taking the lead ….absolutley pathetic with the players we got ..this bloke obviously isnt the awnser ….film it is then….back to the ssme old drivel

  • Al says:

Isn’t Paqueta a shadow of the promise he once showed. Too many errors and not linking very well at all.

    • John Lattimore says:

Too much on his mind at the moment. He shouldn’t be playing from the start. Best on the bench.
