Haller gives his reason for West Ham failure

|

Seb Haller has given his first press conference at Ajax saying that David Moyes system didn’t suit him at West Ham.

The former Hammer told reporters “I think the style of Ajax fits me more than at West Ham United. Things were not easy there for me.”

Revealing that he had been in contact with Ajax for a number of months the striker added “I couldn’t let the opportunity slip to play here. Everything went quite fast, we already knew each other. The people around me always had contact with Ajax, and I knew the coach. This is not a step down for me, but I did struggle at West Ham due to the system.”

Ajax manager Ten Hag backed up his new signing by telling reporters “Our style of play fits Haller better. He will play very close to the opposition’s box, he will have great but above all creative players around him, and he will fit right in when it comes to quick combination football.”

ClaretandHugh says: We hear you Seb and it’s always easy to find reasons as to why things didn’t work out in yours – or anybody’s else’s job. Whilst we understand the point you are making it has to be said you weren’t a raging success when playing in what was supposed to be a more creative line up when the bloke who bought you – Manuel Pellegrini – was in charge. Just as a reminder goals is supposedly your business and in the Chilean manager’s time you managed just five goals in 18 games which is hardly setting the world alight for a £45 million striker. Fair enough, you didn’t set the price!  However, when on personal terms in advance of £100k a week it’s fair to expect a little more. It’s all done and dusted now of course and we realise you need to explain to your new fan base why things didn’t work out for you. But the reality is that under neither of the managers did you set the world on fire. Having said all that, we wish you the very best at Ajax.

Can Ajax be wrong when they quickly bought Haller. They saw talent at a bargain. AND Who is the big loser in all of this? West ham, that’s who. We have a manager in change of our assets couldn’T OR WOULDN’T use him properly so he let’s the club take hit. Good luck to you Sen. , got to look out for #1. This is how we do it at West ham.

    Short memory??
Haller in his first few games looked like a great signing (As stated on this website) his touch and goal scoring weren’t questioned (like they have been this season.) before the entire West Ham team/squad seemed to implode under Pellegrini…. not just Haller.
So to say ‘goals is his business’ is a bit of a misdirection, the team winning IS his and every players business, and having a goal keeper Roberto, who scores own goals isn’t really on him…
I wish Haller best of luck and hoping he can be replaced with a striker who plays to the team/coaching strengths ….
Then again expecting West Ham to compete with big spending clubs (Everton, Villa, Leicester etc) is likely to end on disappointment ….?

Good luck to bloke. Why be bitter about him? Best thing for both parties. Its not like he did an Arnie or Payet. IMO he was fair with his comments. Not convinced he cost us 45M anyhow. Thought it was reported 36M – 45M when we bought him with wages less than 90K? Hopefully we can get someone who suits DM’s system better.

I have read several reports like this giving reasons for his lack of success with us. They are all saying the same thing: the system did not suit him and go on to say that he is better suited to playing in a team with at least 2 up front, one that dominates possession where others do all the work to lay it on a plate for him. Well frankly, in the Premier League it’s only the very big teams that usually have the spending power on wages and transfers to guarantee that and it’s not us. Furthermore those teams in the Premier that do play like that have much better options than Haller and would not give him a second look. If he wants to be a “big fish” it’s going to have to be in the biggest club in a very small pond and I guess Ajax and the Dutch League represent that well. We do need cover but I for one won’t miss him.

Haller is now living in old amsterdam, wearing his clogs, eating his smelly amsterdammers cheese, singing about how lucky he is living in a windmill with a load of mouse in old amsterdam, going clip clippety clop! FEYENOORD TILL I DIE!

The most basic part of any footballer’s game is simply EFFORT…. Haller was a lazy disinterested player… and now the reasons for this have been revealed. Being such a lazy selfish player, Dutch football will suit him, not a particularly challenging league and he’s at arguably the biggest club in dutch football.
IF he was as good as many of our supporters still believe, he wouldn’t be making that move to dutch football right now as there would be a queue of top clubs across Europe looking to get him on the cheap.
At the end of the day, he’s talking himself up as expected, putting the blame for his failure at someone else’s door… but his history at West Ham won’t lie…. Failure!

rubbish, mate. you’ve been given the chance to see some perspective and you’ve missed it completely. as lazy as you think his effort was, so is your analysis. failure!

      • The Cat says:

Maybe all that fun on the rollercoaster has scattered your brains…. But you can always support his new team… because he failed to do the business here…… Straight FACTS son.

    • GaryD says:

I am with you. He occasionally turned up. Berbatov used to make it look so effortless, because it was. Haller similar, talented but lazy.

    Sign someone!!!

Classy and honest comments from Seb Haller. Difficult to see what more he could have done with us other than being a Michail Antonio clone. All of our lone strikers have struggled for success in the last 20 years. More support has not often been forthcoming. A thankless task. Bit like the goalie being slated for his poor clearance kicking when he shouldn’t have been passed the ball in the first place. Easy to have an opinion after the event, but not really getting to the root of the problem.
As you say, Sean, wish Seb Haller all the very best. Thanks for his efforts with us – just a shame it didn’t work out this time.

His people were always in contact with Ajax. Perhaps that’s why he didn’t appear too bothered.
