Haller’s former club returns to raise cautious hopes

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Gelson Fernandes has revealed the players are back in training and feeling lucky to be so.

The 33 year old former Manchester City player reckons the Bundesliga could restart in late May after things came to a halt on March 13.

It means that should the same timetable occur in Britain – and that’s an unpredictable situation – the Premier League would be on course to be back in business in June .

We reported a few days ago that Sebastian Haller’s former club would become one of the first in Europe to see players return to training.

And it gives cautious hope that we may not be too far behind. Only three players are allowed in each dressing room and they cannot use the gym.

The training routines being adopted by the Frankfurt players are careful, with them training in small groups on shooting and passing drills but no contact is allowed at this stage.

However, it seems that there is no chance of matches being paid before the fans with Fernandes saying: “When we come back, it will be behind closed doors.”

He added: “I think that will be in late May. It’s impossible to think that in June, July, August, we’d be playing in front of 50,000 people. That would be wrong,

  1. I take it that with all the safety measures being taken with social distancing in changing rooms and training and behind closed doors. Would the games involve social distancing? You could run straight through after the kick off with no challenge and score. Games would end up 80-80 score draws. I’m a full on football fan, but come on, lives are more important than money.
