Claret & Hugh has confirmed via a top source at West Ham that striker Niclas Füllkrug has suffered an Achilles injury and has flown back to the UK for treatment.

Speaking to C&H’s Sean Whetstone this evening, the high-ranking Irons insider said, “Unfortunately, it’s true [Füllkrug’s injury]. It’s his Achilles, and he’s returning to us for treatment. This is why I hate international breaks.”

This news will come as a hammer blow to the player, who is looking to cement a place in the West Ham line-up following his goal for Germany against Hungary. Reports suggest that the striker picked up the injury early in a training session for his national team, who are set to play Holland tomorrow.

Fellow forward Michail Antonio is also away on international duty with Jamaica, while Jarrod Bowen could feature for England tomorrow night against Finland. Danny Ings has remained in East London and bagged a hat-trick during the recent trial game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

31 year old journeyman striker with history of serious injuries gets injured shocker!!!
This transfer was so ridiculous it makes me angry!

This seems to highlight the belief that the decision not to pay the bit extra to get Jhon Duran was a massive mistake. Yes, injuries can happen to anybody but West Ham are looking really negligent now over their failure to get the centre forward we really needed.

They call themselves journalists! “Disaster strikes for West Ham as top star withdraws” says another melodramatic headline. Fullkrug can barely get playing time at West Ham so far and gets slammed for being too old and too slow but when it suits, he is suddenly a top star and his absence is a disaster. We’ll cope.

    • TommyD says:

I think the disaster rhetoric comes more from a gradual realisation that we appear to have flushed £25 million down the drain and are no more strengthened in the forward department then we was last season. We will cope. As we did last year. But we have not improved and answers need to be given as to why when we are operating in such a tight budget this transfer was ever allowed to be sanctioned. Whilst it’s obvious he’s a decent player who can score goals, assuming his body can withstand the demand of the premier league (doubtful), how many will he have to score across the next 2 seasons to justify the outlay with no chance of getting any of that money back. I think fellow countryman Steidten had stars in his eyes when he pushed this one through…

This is it in a nutshell. £25m, big wages and a 4 year contract for someone who turns 32 this season and has never played in the PL before was madness.

People on here got the hump when I called him the German Ings. But there it is, another player in a year’s time will likely be in the same position Ings is in now. Us wanting to get rid and him not going because no one else is mug enough to give him the wages and length of contract we did.

Exactly. He’s only played 4 games so far . The more I see and hear of the modern game the more I despise it . Social media is giving the chronicly impatient a voice . I watched claret and booze the other night and some numpty was calling for lopeteguis head . Not realising while we’re owned by David Sullivan and Karen Brady the perfect manager isn’t coming here .
