Hammer could be the next Greenwood

West Ham Academy striker Mipo Odubeko, 17, has been tipped by coaches to be the real deal and a promising prospect to make an early breakthrough to the first team.

West Ham signed the highly-rated young striker Ademipo ‘Mipo’ Odubeko from Manchester United last year offering him a £5,000 per week contract. Odubeko spent his schoolboy years at Manchester United, where he scored 35 goals and netted on his U18 Premier League debut.

The powerful centre forward was born and raised in the Republic of Ireland, for whom he has been capped at U17 international level and won the Victory Shield with Ireland at U16 level.

Mipo played alongside 18-year-old Mason Greenwood and his decision to leave the Red Devils was largely based on lack of first-team opportunities after Greenwood got his chance.

When signing last October, Odubeko told Whufc.com: “I’m a goalscorer, I’m quick, and I work hard for my team,” he said, when asked to describe himself as a player. “I always set high expectations for myself, so I’m looking to score a lot of goals for West Ham this season.

“I’ve been out for a while now, so now I’m just excited to get going – and get scoring.”

It remains to be seen if Odubeko will be given the same chances that Greenwood has but he is certainly a player for the teenager to aspire to!

  1. Do you remember when Diangana was the new Carzola. I have given up looking to the future when the owners have no interest but to sell players to keep themselves afloat, whilst asset stripping the club. Ground gone, training ground mortgaged, youngsters sold. When Nothing is left, all interest payments extracted, backhanders from agent Salthouse taken then they will move on

Good luck to Mipo for his move to Some bucket shop club in a few years who will be passing us as we crash down the leagues

  2. Should be nice to sell on for peanuts when he graduates to the 1st team.
    Diagana, Ngelka,
What’s the point of getting excited or interested.
Club has asset stripped the fans for years , now doing it to themselves.

  3. So he is gonna be sold next 😅😅😅 Jack needs new underpants

  4. Great I bet the owners are looking forward to selling him for peanuts in the near future then

  5. If someone can stump up 2 million, he’s yours. Fire sale up and running at the London stadium

  6. He might be the next Greenwood. But he will be long gone from us when that happens.

  7. And what if he is ? We will only end up sending him out on loan, not playing him much when he is with us; & end up selling him for peanuts ! Just like we , apparently, are doing with Diangana. Only at West Ham The mind boggles !

  8. Scored a couple last night I think for the u23’s

  9. My previous comment seems to have been ignored – so I’ll try again. This might be our next “wonder kid”; but after he has been sent out on loan a few times, not given a meaningful chance in the first team, & left to moulder in the development squad, he will soon see the light & leave. This, apart from Declan Rice, seems to be the fate of all our young “great prospects”. Good old West Ham .

  10. Well he’ll be gone soon then if Diangana is anything to go by…….our club is a joke! GSB OUT

  11. What’s the point in the Academy, Now. I’m through with following the progress of our talented youngsters. Were only going to sell them on for peanuts. This kid want end up wearing the claret & Blue of West Ham. So what’s the point in even remembering his name.
Someone turn the light out when you leave.
