Hammer extends loan

|

Grady Diangana has become the latest Hammer to extend his loan spell, committing to stay with EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The winger will remain at The Hawthorns until the Baggies complete their campaign under Slaven Bilic, with Albion hoping to secure promotion back to the Premier League come the season’s end.

West Brom restarts the second tier in second place, six points clear of Fulham in third with nine games to play, and a point behind leaders Leeds United.

Diangana, who has scored five goals and produced six assists so far this season missed the last few months of the Baggies’ season before suspension due to a hamstring injury – with the midfielder being forced off inside nine minutes against stoke City back in January.

The 21-year-old, who made a promising start for Slaven Bilic, sustained a hamstring injury against Brentford in December – keeping him out for four weeks.

Despite initially recovering and completing a full 90 minutes against Charlton Athletic in January, Diangana limped off in the Baggies’ next game in a  1-0 defeat against Stoke City after just four minutes and failed to appear again with accusations he was rushed back too quickly by West Brom medical staff.

West Brom is set to resume their Premier League promotion push against Birmingham on Saturday 20th June with their final game against QPR on Wednesday 22nd July.

The Baggies would need to part with a club-record fee of £20m if they wanted to have any chance of signing Diagana permanently it has been claimed.

Diagana joins Josh Cullen (Charlton Athletic) and Jordan Hugill (Queens Park Rangers) in extending his loan spell until the season’s end.

Five Hammers have returned from League one and two after their decision to cancel the remainder of their season.

Nathan Holland has returned from Oxford United, Dan Kemp from League Two Stevenage

Conor Coventry was on loan at Lincoln City, Nathan Trott was loaned out to AFC Wimbledon and Ajibola Alese was on loan at Accrington Stanley.
