Hammer horror on night of shame!

By Hugh Southon

AFC Wimbledon 4 West Ham 2

Surely this has to be the end of the line for Carroll

Pick your own word – shame, embarrassment, disgust, horror – none of them are strong enough – together they may come close!

This was the night that will be remembered when the younger West Ham generation  relate their worst ever experiences to the next one.

For in the first half Manuel Pellegrini’s starting X1 were utterly appalling and for that the manager has to take much responsibility through his team selection.

It came as no surprise when Diangana, Obiang and Carroll disappeared, to be replaced by Anderson, Fredericks and Lucas. We improved dramatically and got back to 3-2 before Sibbick sealed the League One team’s win.

The upside ( ok that’s the wrong word) it is that Pellegrini has surely learned a very late lesson – Andy Carroll is out of the question as a front man – we can only thank the stars that Arnautovic will be here until the end of the season.

Quite simply Carroll was the pits – awful – but it seems unfair to pick him out as in the first half we were a disgrace everywhere.

That we got it back to 3-2 in the second only demonstrated who should not have been out there in the first place. Yes it really was that dreadful!

Felipe Anderson scored a special free kick, Antonio was energetic throughout but missed chances, Fredericks looked adventurous and Perez is better than his reputation at times.

If you are a drinker there’s only one thing to do now – ‘get Brahms’ – the rest of us will suffer a seriously sleepless dreams or nightmares.

Awful just awful.

  1. That performance ranks with a 3-0 defeat at Mansfield in 1968. Utter rubbish.
I thought Pellegrini knew what he was doing until tonight.

  2. How do we explain being blindsided by Arnie signing a contract extension? Who knew? Where is our famous Ex ITK?

  3. Absolutely disgraceful. I have had enough of the PRIMADONNA so called footballers, maybe they should be playing netball. Had enough of this rubbish and unsure wether I can put up with this club, something is very very wrong.

  4. Masuaku is not, repeat NOT a premier league defender.
Carroll is not, repeat NOT a premier league striker.
I could go on but I can’t be arsed. I need a drink.

  5. Long time since i have been this angry over a Hammers display. That was truly awful and the damage had been well and truly done b4 the changes were made.Glorious chance to progress in the Cup has gone.At least half that starting 11 should not play again this season as they have literally shamed the club tonight and made us a laughing stock again.Fleetwood and Barnsley crushed this team and this bunch were played off the park in the 1st half.Once the injuries clear up they should not be allowed anywhere near the 1st team.I honestly thought these days of shame were behind us.He could have played a much stronger team but bottled it for the Wolves match. How many more chances are some of this lot going to get?Time to be ruthless Pelle and F… them off if you can.

  6. I had a feeling when I saw the line up without Nasri on the bench we would be in for a tough night. There is something wrong with the attitude of many players in our team that goes back to Bilic and was continued under Moyes, a complete lack of intensity until we go 2 0 down. Ogbonna, Obiang, Noble, Antonio, Adrian, Carroll and Hernandez all should be sold in the summer. We made Wimbledon look like world beaters, in terms of desire compared to our pampered poodles they were. They got what they deserved and we got what we did, disgusting is a godd assessment.

  7. Like most of the rest of WH supporters I could not understand the team selection how many times is he going to play Masuaku before he realises he is not a full back, the same applies to Antonio why wasn’t Fredericks playing. I can only think the manager is not bothered about the cup & is concentrating on the league, Surely Carroll will not feature any more unless they use him as a centre half ( but he would probably give away too many penalties )
Also Arnie should have been out for the first half at least, if the manager thinks he did not have the right attitude but he must have been better than Carroll.

  8. Thinking some of these highly paid professionals were looking perhaps for a week in the sun, for warm weather training now they’re out of the next round?? I think not , just looking at how many premier league clubs have been “knocked ” out this year I think we could have a “normal” premier league weekend the day the next round gets played ? 😊

  9. It’s the FA Cup for Christ’s sake these things are suppose to happen why do you think it was on tv in the 1st place?! Let’s save our moaning for the 2 defeats coming up next!

  10. Well that is about as bad as it gets, considering the squad that we have and the players who started this game it is a massive indication of desire. A few players there who are fighting for their starting place each week, showed no fight at all. Those fighting for their career have one eye on America or China maybe. Possibly one who wasn’t there and has dreamed recently of being elsewhere may have had had an influence as Payet did just by attitude being a powerful thing.
However the buck as always stops at the feet of the management team, and I have a feeling MP will not be taking this well. I would not be surprised if by this point of the season and after a few poor performances if he doesn’t already know who is surplus to requirements and what areas he will want to strengthen.
I foresee the offloading of a few hefty salary packages come the summer!

  11. Adrian, Masuaku, Reid (Where is he these days?), Obiang, Cullen, Hernandez, Carroll (does he ever put any effort in anymore?), Perez, Arnautovic all to go in the summer. Clear the decks of this lot of shambles and shame. Did we pay them a wage this week? If so they should refund with interest. They were all AWOL (OK Reid, Cullen are injured and Arnautovic is still throwing a strop that a 2 year old would be ashamed of). By my reckoning that gets us some 70 odd mil. Invest in a decent second string keeper, a decent left back to give Cresswell some competition, perhaps another central defender, 2 for the midfield, and 2 strikers. Step Silva up, get Gomes in and one other decent striker. And suddenly Pelle has a decent squad as opposed to this lot – Ashamed of the lot of them for wearing the shirt

  12. I’m not going to jump on the ‘What was Pelle doing?’ bandwagon. He didn’t put a team of kids out. That starting line up should have been more that good enough to see off Wimbledon without breaking much of a sweat…. And therein lay the problem. They didn’t seem want to sweat at all, or run, or tackle, or be bothered to play for the shirt! First half, they were just wandering around like they expected to win by right. Too many pampered pros for whom the FA Cup means very little these days. I was surprised at how lack-lustre Noble looked though.

One change to starting XI I would have made though would have been to stick Rice in. You just know the kid would have been up for it, and on a night like that you always need a high-tempo counter in midfield to these lower league, kamikaze fanatics, playing for their skins. ….. And at least he can flippin’ defend!

  13. Spot on, GhostofBoogers.
