Hammer JWP admits “huge disappointment”

|

James Ward-Prowse has starred for West Ham so far this season having joined over summer

James Ward-Prowse is entirely justified in expressing his “huge disappointment” at missing out on an England call-up.

JWP has had an astonishing West Ham start to the season following his move from Southampton and has received huge plaudits from everywhere as a result.

More importantly the boss has been over the top about him which is very unlike David Moyes who is careful not to give players too much praise.

However, it has become impossible not to do so in his case despite him preferring to remain entirely silent about the form which has led to Jarrod Bowen’s Three Lions call.

JWP has scored twice and assisted six times in eight games but even that hasn’t been enough to interest Southgate sufficiently it seems.

And commenting on TNT Sports after the game JWP said: Yeah, huge disappointment [not to be selected for England duty].’

‘Like I said many times in interviews, you can only control what you can control as a player, and that’s playing to a certain level that you believe is good enough to be in that squad.

‘It’s important that you play regularly and I’m doing both at the minute. I feel like I’m in a good place, and it’s not gone my way.

‘But I’m focused on West Ham, doing my best for this club and enjoying every minute of it, so long that may that continue.’

Ward-Prowse is without an international call up since September 2022, where he was left on the bench for clashes with Hungary and Italy in the Nations League.

Disgusting … if it was a close call or if others were doing well then it is what it is but to get overlooked for Henderson playing in Saudi and Phillips who has hardly kicked a ball in months is ridiculous .. Southgate should be picking players on merit, not on names alone especially when they’re undeserving
