Hammer looks nailed on for January exit

Harrison Ashby looks nailed on to leave West Ham in January.

A new report from The West Ham Way, via Ex WHU Employee, reports that the right-back is now set to go in January.

We reported the same several weeks ago when revealing the right back isĀ  in the last year of his contract and that his agent also represents Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

We have reported that Newcastle and they made an attempt to sign him in the summer.

However, it remains to be seen if Howe’s club will reignite their interest in doing a deal for Ashby, especially given the form of England international Kieran Trippier although a club insider has told us that the Magpies remain keen.

Leeds are also said to hold an interest in signing Ashby and they could look to table a bid for the player in January.

He has struggled for minutes during his time at West Ham and has only made seven first-team appearances for the club, with just one of those coming in the Premier League.

At the age of 20, one has to think Ashby is expecting a little more first-team action.

  1. One of the many victims of Moyes’ intransigence. He didn’t play one U23 player even for a couple of minutes, for two full seasons. The die was cast; they all started to want away. Perkins, Alese, Longelo, Ashby, all with massive potential, heading for the exit as quick as they could.

  2. Moyes does not give youth a chance.

  3. We now have one of the oldest, if not the oldest, team in the Premiership and that is reflected in poor stats. for both kilometres run per game and pressing. Also, rather than play a good young player like Ashby, who could be our right back for the next five to ten years, Moyes will play Johnson who has been woeful all season. At least Longelo is still with us, albeit on loan at Birmingham. Moyes will not provide a career path for young players, so they will leave. To put it bluntly there is no point in having an Academy with Moyes at the helm.
