David Moyes later described Masuaku’s actions as “despicable” while the 24-year-old admitted it was “totally unacceptable”.
West Ham are set to fine the defender two weeks’ wages of around £50,000, the FA have now issued the player with a standard six-match suspension for spitting.
The ban means Masuaku will miss West Ham’s home game against Crystal Palace on Tuesday, and further matches against Brighton (away), Watford (home), Liverpool (away), Swansea (away) and Burnley (home).
“He was caught spitting” ? By who ? Neither the ref nor linesman appear to have seen it at the time and only acted on the whinging of the Wigan players. We know now he did do it but at the time there was no evidence.
Come off it, players cry foul when they’ve barely been touched, you can’t blame the Wigan players for reacting. What would you do if some gobbed on you?
Guilty , end of . It’s like a crime you think you escaped but caught years later .
Bad for West Ham and the fans . He’s an Idiot . Right now we are missing a squad and he does that ! . , looks another player trying to force a way out of the LS . A six month ban just when we need players to turn up … probably get injured in training ; the norm for players who don’t give a sh*t .
Should have read ,,,,, six match ban : sorry folks .
Good piece by ex player David Preece in the paper. ‘Spitting is vile but anybody who thinks spitting is worse than being punched in the face either has never been punched in the face or has forgotten what it’s like’.
Remember that Everton thug nearly crippling Payet (ok no jokes about give him a medal). That’s worse than being gobbed at, even if you catch it in the face, & definitely if it is just on a shirt you don’t even have to wash. Yes he is guilty, yes he deserves punishment, but massive over reaction.
I agree to a point, but a player can argue that he didn’t mean to hurt a fellow pro, when someone spits on you you know they’ve meant it.
I think its a ridiculous ban 6 matches for spitting down at a player… if he spits in his face or coughs a greenie at him yes by all means give him 6 matches, this is someone that has never been sent off before and has taken responsibility for his actions, he is not El Hadj Diouf or Joey Barton, it seems pathetic, give him a 3 game ban and a warning about his conduct… classic FA not an ounce of common sense among them, they should be banning their own ref’s when they cost teams points due to there own poor conduct.
Totally agree, the punishment was far too excessive.
Or in the case of Mike Dean just for being a pratt..
Name a ref that’s not .? 😜
How has mason got away with not sending the sane assassin off and not dragged before the beaks ? How much longer before someone chins one ? A dicanio type is out there somewhere ! I would pay good money to see one get his comeuppance when blatantly being bias , as they are !!!😎😎
